Description

From the Chick Corea 75th Anniversary project that dominated the jazz scene in 2016, the final live performance of the “miracle trio” consisting of bass virtuoso Eddie Gomez and current number one contemporary drummer Brian Blade, will be released for the first time in ultra-high quality! ! To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Chick’s birth, who turned 75 on June 12, 2016, Chick’s activities in 2016 (continuing until 2017) centered on live performances for various projects that summarized his career, and in mid-September, he came to Japan with Avishai Cohen and Marcus Gilmore, a member of Chick’s The Vigil, as part of Trilogy (Chick calls his trio Trilogy). Just 10 days later, he formed Trilogy with Eddie Gomez, a true virtuoso who played a key role in Chick’s return to 4-beat jazz in the 70s and was the regular bassist for the Bill Evans Trio for many years, and was said to be the best acoustic bassist of all time, and Brian Blade, a super drummer who supported his friend Wayne Shorter’s supreme quartet from the Miles Davis group in the 60s and is the first call not only for jazz but also for artists of all genres. Until now, only recordings from 2016 by this “special” trio (trilogy) have been released, but this time, a rare live performance from the final period of their activities (perhaps the last?) on May 2, 2017 at the MOM Sports Hall in Budapest, Hungary, has been released as a 2-disc set with the complete encore performance over an hour and a half in the highest quality sound with careful mastering by the label! While changing the set list significantly from the 2016 stage, Chick generously displays all of his multifaceted talents by weaving in nostalgic and beautiful melodies with his unique sound. The songs selected this time include his representative songs “500 Miles High,” “Spain,” “Anna’s Tango,” his killer “Humpty Dumpty,” Miles Davis’ familiar “Tune Up,” and “How Deep Is the Ocean,” a favorite repertoire of Bill Evans (Trio), who revolutionized piano trio performance with the participation of Gomez himself and whose model remains unsurpassed even today. This is truly a culmination of Chick’s acoustic piano trio. In the second half, there is also a solo corner by Gomez and Blade, which was not heard on the 2016 stage! The essential content is that Brian, the youngest of the three, who was honed in his work with Shorter’s supreme quartet and who “never plays the same piece twice in the same way,” inspires the two masters with different approaches to each piece (what a wide range of possibilities!), and unwittingly brings out all of Chick and Gomez’s abilities, ensuring a blissful moment where you can fully experience the essence and true essence of the ideal piano trilogy music!
