Description

CHICAGO in 1970 took the world by storm. Now, a top-of-the-line upgraded master of that classic pro-shot performance, just released in 2026, is available. This performance was filmed on July 21, 1970, at Lennox, and is a multi-camera pro-shot of their appearance at the Tanglewood Music Festival. This famous footage is also known for featuring rock legend Bill Graham as the MC, and was released in 2020 as “TANGLEWOOD 1970” to great acclaim. This is the updated version, the ultimate upgrade. It is still the complete version, approximately 95 minutes long, but the video quality has been significantly upgraded. Before we get to the stunning visuals, let’s first look at the show’s position in history. Let’s look back at their schedule at the time, when they became the darlings of the era with hit after hit.・January 8th-25th: North America #1 (12 shows) [January 26th: “Chicago and 23 Promises” released] ・February 15th-May 25th: North America #2 (72 shows) ・June 26th-27th: North America #3 (2 shows) [End of June: Production of “Chicago III” begins] ・July 16th-August 24th: North America #4 (28 shows) ←★HERE★ ・August 28th: Isle of Wight Festival ・September 1st-November 26th: North America #5 (46 shows) [Early December: “Chicago III” completed] The sharp and high-resolution video quality surpasses previous masters. This is CHICAGO in 1970. “Chicago and 23 Promises” was a huge hit, and singles were consistently entering the top 10. It was the year of their biggest tour in history. The Lennox performance in this release is the 6th show of “North America #4”. This concert took place about a month before their legendary appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival. The previous version, “TANGLEWOOD 1970,” already boasted official-quality video, but this upgraded master is even sharper and higher resolution. It’s like a completely different film. You can clearly see every strand of hair, and the metallic sheen of the horn section is breathtakingly vivid. You can even clearly see the types of plugs inserted into the keyboards. The analog feel and luster of the previous version were wonderful, but this time, while retaining that luster, the level of detail has been dramatically improved. Of course, the audio is also a completely official-quality stereo soundboard. The master’s freshness and the beautifully separated mix are perfect, resulting in a historically significant masterpiece sound that is in no way inferior to numerous studio works. This full show, featuring a generous selection of their early hits, is depicted in such superb quality as a full show capturing the fleeting moment when the massive success of “Chicago and 23 Vows” and the production of “Chicago III” intersected. Let’s compare and organize the set, which is slightly different from the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. Chicago’s trajectory – Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? / Beginnings / I’m a Man Chicago and 23 Vows – In The Country / 25 or 6 to 4 / Poem for the People (★) / It Better End Soon – Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon (Make Me Smile / So Much To Say, So Much To Give / Colour My World / Make Me Smile) Chicago III – I Don’t Want Your Money (★) / Mother *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not heard at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. …and so on. The masterpieces from their first two albums were generously played, and two songs from the then-in-production ‘Chicago III’ were sprinkled in. “I Don’t Want Your Money” in particular is an extremely rare song, recorded only a few times until 1971. And even more impressive than the set was the performance. While you’ll be overwhelmed by the magnificent ensemble, a standard-bearer of brass rock, the real star is undoubtedly Terry Kath. At just 24 years old, his guitar playing was energetic and his singing was incredibly passionate, delivering a performance that surpasses even “At Carnegie Hall” and “Live in Japan.” This is a superb pro-shot recording of that legendary 1970 performance that swept the world, lasting approximately 95 minutes. This is the latest, top-of-the-line upgraded master from 2026. It boasts sharper and higher-resolution video than the previous version, and a completely official-quality stereo soundboard.
