Description

Just before they come to Japan for the first time in 5 years since 2008, here’s a piece that CHEAP TRICK fans can’t miss! From “Japan Jam 2” in 1980, when they came to Japan for the third time, the Kobe performance on August 19th is packaged with a stereo soundboard sound source leaked by the people involved. This is a long-awaited CD that allows fans to enjoy a special live performance that is important in the history of Japanese Western music concerts! Speaking of CHEAP TRICK’s performance in Japan, the first thing that comes to mind is “AT BUDOKAN”. Vocalist Robin Zander and bassist Tom Peterson have both good looks and solid ability, Rick Nielsen has dual sides as a first-rate songwriter and guitarist and has an eccentric personality, and Van is a unique drummer.・E.Carlos…The sound created by these four unique individuals and the excitement of the venue are sure to impress even ordinary listeners around the world. TRICK’s name and the Nippon Budokan as a “concert hall of fame” made a strong impression. With this work, they suddenly rose to stardom and made their second visit to Japan the following year, which was a greater success than their first visit. Furthermore, his popularity reached its peak, as he participated in sessions for John Lennon’s album and continued to appear on the cover of famous music magazines. A turning point for the band came in 1980. After the production of the album “ALL SHOOK UP”, Tom Peterson, who had supported the band’s popularity, left the band. The band has welcomed Pete Komita as his successor and is preparing for a tour in Japan in August. Their third visit to Japan was their headline appearance at “Japan Jam 2.” “Japan Jam” was held for the first time in 1979 with BEACH BOYS, HEART and others. As a pioneer of so-called “summer festivals”, they are now legendary. This second performance, which took place in 1980, moved from Shonan and Kyoto the previous year, with performances in the Kanto region held at Yokohama Stadium in Kanagawa on August 16th and 17th, and on the 19th at Mt. Rokko Ski Resort in Kobe. We held a Kansai performance on a special stage. In this work, the final day, the 19th, is almost completely recorded with the stereo sound board sound source leaked by the people involved. This sound source was previously released, but this time it has been completely remastered from the master cassette tape provided by the parties involved. The sound that was a little dull and fluffy in the previous release has been reborn into a sound image with a clear high-pitched sound (the roughness and distortion that was felt in some areas have been alleviated as much as possible). Fans will have even more fun listening to CHEAP TRICK’s catchy and aggressive songs. At that time, information was not as developed as it is now, and changes in band members were not immediately known (it is said that the band had not announced Tom’s withdrawal before coming to Japan). For this reason, fans were faced with the fact that Tom Peterson was leaving the group for the first time at the venue, and it is said that some of them were in an uproar. But the live performance itself was amazing! Pete’s stable playing matches Carlos’ drums skillfully, and the rhythms of both are powerful. At this time, Pete apparently had a look that was reminiscent of Tom’s, including his clothes and hairstyle, which suggests that the band valued the image that fans had (therefore, there were a large number of audience members who did not notice the member change. that’s right). Needless to say, Robin’s colorful singing voice and Rick’s guitar, which enlivens the excitement with his ever-changing playing, make for a lively performance. According to the fans who saw this live show, the weather was not good that day, but the content of the live performance was so full of enthusiasm that it blew away all that. Even though the cheers are originally off because the recording is directly connected to the line, Robin’s microphone picks up the cheers well. From here, you can clearly understand the excitement in the venue. Like “AT BUDOKAN,” the album begins with the promised “Hello There,” and then representative songs from each album are played, including “Clock Strikes Ten,” which is also included in “IN COLOR.” “California Man”, “On Top Of The World”, and even “Surrender” from “HEAVEN TONIGHT” will create a big listening place. Four songs were selected from the blockbuster hit “DREAM POLICE” including “I’ll Be With You Tonight” and “Voices”, and THE BEATLES number “THE BEATLES” named after the 10-inch single “FOUND ALL THE PARTS” released at the time. Day Tripper” is a must-listen. And “Ain’t That A Shame” in the second half of the live will remind you of “AT BUDOKAN”. At the end, the reprise of “Hello There”, which is a medley from “Dream Police”, brings the live performance to a close with a lively bang. It’s a shame that some songs are missing, but for a total of about 70 minutes, listeners will be able to experience the valuable document of “Pete Komita’s only visit to Japan during his tenure,” and learn about the charm of CHEAP TRICK. You can enjoy plenty of exciting stages. Live at Mount Rokko Ski Area, Kobe, Japan 19th August 1980 STEREO SBD(from Original Masters) 1. Opening 2. Hello There 3. Clock Strikes Ten 4.
