Description
This 51-minute recording of a live performance by Quartet West, led by Charlie Haden, known for his famous duo with Pat Metheny, in Bremerhaven, Germany on June 22, 1989, was recorded on stereo soundboard from the radio on-air master. Quartet West was formed in 1987, and the performance features Alan Broadbent, Ernie Watts, and Lawrence Marable, a drummer who also participated in some of the albums. The well-coordinated rhythm section of Haden and Marable, Ernie Watts’s saxophone with its excellent high notes, and Broadbent’s piano with its neat touch and sophisticated balance of tempo, are a perfect match. The romantic songs played, such as “Sunday At The Hillcrest” written by Haden and “First Song (For Ruth)”, which is often covered, from the 1988 “In Angel City” released by Verve, are particularly worth listening to. 1. Sunday At The Hillcrest (12:35) 2. Farmer’s Trust (07:55) 3. The Good Life (13:07) 4. First Song (For Ruth) (14:48) 5. Bay City (03:06) [Live at Weser-Forum, Bremerhaven, Germany, June 2nd 1989 : Stereo Soundboard Recording] Charlie Haden – bass / Ernie Watts – saxophone / Alan Broadbent – piano / Lawrence Marable – drums
