Description

This is a live performance by the Cedar Wotton Quartet at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. The focus of attention on this day was of course on tenor George Coleman. His free-flowing tenor playing was truly spectacular. Coleman has a rather modest impression, but I think his tenor playing here is his original style. “Bolivia,” which starts with a snappy bass intro, is just too cool. The members other than the two at the front are Sam Jones on bass and Billy Higgins on drums, the same as when the album “Eastern Rebellion” was recorded. The hard bop revival that was all the rage in the 1970s is still fresh to listen to today, and the cool, chic jazz that never fades is unfolding, so you can enjoy this without exaggeration.
