Description

From November 24th to December 4th, 2011, 10 performances were held on the UK tour, and the final performance on December 4th, at the Milton Keynes Stable Theatre, was recorded in master quality and Odins recording for about 2 hours. The familiar keyboard-less guitar trio performance, and although the bass player was replaced by Simon Fitzpatrick from Stuart Clayton on this tour, the three were in perfect harmony as it was the final day. The guitar is also familiar to us, Paul Bielatovicus, who reproduces complex ELP numbers with modern and wonderful techniques on guitar only. This time, the set includes the adventurous Abaddon’s Bolero, and each is a highlight of the first half of the show. In the second half, the intensely arranged Trilogy explodes, and while up until now there have been many percussive and rhythmic numbers featuring Carl, this time songs such as Bitches Crystal and Take A Pebble, which make you wonder “how can you play without a piano?”, are selected and presented with interesting arrangements. Fans will also be happy to hear the Karelia Suite being performed. Serious instrumental battles are also recorded with tremendous force, especially Fanfare For The Common Man, which features a drum solo. As a coupling, a DVD is added with a good audience shot of the performance at the “Afraka Rock Festival” in Italy on July 22, 2006, which lasts for 1 hour and 20 minutes. With the excellent camera angle and the best sound, Carl’s powerful drumming, full of showmanship and originality, is particularly impressive, and even though it is all instrumental, you will not get bored at all and will be engrossed in the performance. Also, by not using keyboards, some parts cannot be reproduced by guitar, but the guitar and bass are very technical and very satisfying to listen to. The opening performance by Peter Gunn and The Barbarian is particularly powerful, and the bass solo in the latter half of Hoedown is also superb. Even more interesting is Trilogy, where the performance is quite outrageous and far removed from the original songs. Check out the original arrangements of Toccata, L.A. Nights, and Bullfrog.
