Description
This is a soundboard live sound source of Cannonball Adderley Quintet. A collaboration between Julian, also known as “Cannonball”, who supported Miles Davis in the late 1950s, and his younger brother Nat Adderley. There was also a great performance of “Work Song,” one of the best soul jazz songs composed by Nat Adderley and made familiar to rock fans by the Butterfield Blues Band. Piano player Joseph Zawinul is of course Joe Zawinul, who later formed Weather Report with Wayne Shorter. Considering the timing, it was right before I participated in Miles’ “Bitches Brew” session. Zawinul’s piano, which plays a part in the composition of the historical masterpiece “Bitches Brew”, is also worth paying attention to. Incidentally, after this, Zawinul was replaced as the pianist by George Duke. The performance of the quintet, which can be said to have nurtured jazz and rock pianists, is a must-see.
