Description

CAMEL came to Japan after their revival every time they released an album. The original recording from the “RAJAZ” era, which marked that milestone, is now available. This work is recorded from the “September 5, 2000: Nagoya Bottom Line” performance. This is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the entire performance. At that time, they had come to Japan for three consecutive works, the “HARBOUR OF TEARS Tour” in 1997, and the “RAJAZ Tour” in 2000, since the “DUST AND DREAMS Tour” in 1992. In their long history, it was a time when CAMEL and Japan had a honeymoon. However, good things do not last forever. Due to factors such as Andrew Latimer’s worsening myelofibrosis, the record of their visit to Japan was interrupted for 16 long years. This work was recorded at the end of that honeymoon. Let’s look back on the schedule for their visit to Japan at that time.・September 4th: Umeda Heat Beat ・September 5th: Nagoya Bottom Line ←★This work★ ・September 6th: Akasaka BLITZ ・September 7th: Akasaka BLITZ ・September 8th: Shibuya DeSeo (additional) A total of 5 performances. During the revival period, the band came to Japan three times, with the standard format of “5 performances in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka,” but the venue changed each time, but Nagoya this year was the exception. This was the second Bottom Line following the previous one. This work recorded at such a show is truly a superb masterpiece. Recently, our shop has been unearthing original DAT masters recorded in Nagoya with various bands, and this is the latest release. Although there is a sense of space in the sound of the snare and the extension of the vocals, the strength of the core and the fineness of the details are soundboard class. The reason for this is the recording artist’s technique, but the venue also has a large influence. Because it is a small club-sized box, the sound that directly picks up the output sound has no sense of distance and is full of a closed room feeling. Moreover, the audience, who love 70’s prog, is giving the performance the utmost concentration and respect, and the quiet mood is also wrapped in a dignified tension. The crystal clear atmosphere conveys even the subtleties of the performance sound, making it shine even more. The full show of the “RAJAZ Tour” full of active feeling is depicted with such a shining closed room sound. Speaking of the live in 2000, the official live album “THE PARIS COLLECTION” is also left, but that official version was a very narrowly edited work, perhaps to fit on one CD. In contrast, this work is a full recording that penetrates through all at once. Let’s organize the set while comparing it here. Regular set ・Mirage: The White Rider (★) / Lady Fantasy ・Moonlight Fantasy: Song Within A Song (★) / Chord Change ・One Hundred Billion Nights and a Billion Dreams: Echoes (★) ・The Grapes of Wrath: Mother Road / Little Rivers And Little Rose / Hopeless Anger ・The Story of Cobh: Watching The Bobbins (★) / The Hour Candle (A Song For My Father) (★) ・Poem of Farewell: Three Wishes (★) / Sahara Acoustic set ・Stationary Traveler: Refugee (★) / Fingertips ・The Story of Cobh: Eyes Of Ireland (★) / Send Home The Slates (★) ・Other: Slow Yourself Down / Rajaz (★) *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs that were not heard on the official album “THE PARIS COLLECTION”. …And so on. The foundation of the official album “THE PARIS COLLECTION” was the Paris performance immediately after the visit to Japan, which was the same as in Japan. In other words, this work can be listened to as “the complete version of THE PARIS COLLECTION”. The masterpieces, which have been increased to the maximum extent, cover a wide range of careers. The middle part of the show (from the beginning of DISC 2) is an acoustic set, which is quite authentic. You can enjoy plenty of primitive and beautiful performances over 37 minutes of six songs. In 2000, I even had the illusion that “I can watch CAMEL anytime” due to repeated visits to Japan. I never thought that there would be a 16-year blank. An original recording that allows you to experience such a blessed era with the best sound on site. The best audience recording of the “September 5, 2000: Nagoya Bottom Line” performance. This is the latest in the original DAT series of Nagoya recordings, which has been releasing masterpieces one after another, and the strength of the core and the fineness of the details are soundboard class. Because it is a small club-sized venue, the sound picked up directly has no sense of distance, and there is a sense of being in a closed room. This is a cultural heritage from Japan that can also be listened to as the complete version of the official live album “THE PARIS COLLECTION”.
