Description

This is the highest quality stereo soundboard recording of the Wolverhampton performance on February 8th, the sixth of the 12 performances from Bryan Ferry’s 1995 UK tour with Robin Trower. In 1989, after the end of the “Bete Noier” tour, the next work, Horoscope Session, was started, but due to the multi-track recording using the latest recording technology at the time and Ferry’s perfectionism, it was finally abandoned without being completed. As a solution, Robin Trower, a former member of Pro Harum and a follower of Jimi Hendrix, who has released many masterpiece guitar albums, participated as a co-producer, and from around 1992, several tracks from the previous Horoscope Session were re-recorded. Since Ferry and Trower were both fans of standard numbers, a cover album was also made at the same time, and this was released as Ferry’s first solo album in six years, “Taxi” in 1993. In 1994, “Mamouna” was released, mainly featuring re-recorded tracks from the Horoscope Sessions. The news that Robin Trower was a co-producer was also reported in Japan at the time, and many people questioned and criticized Trower’s participation, based only on his image as a follower of Jimi Hendrix. However, from Trower’s own works such as “In City Dreams” and “Caravan to Midnight,” we can imagine that he and Ferry had good chemistry. Ferry himself said about the process of completing “Taxi” around this time, “Trower was always giving me leaves to sing more, telling me to sing more because I was lazy.” Ferry, who had returned to the music scene for the first time in a long time, began a world tour for these two albums in September 1994. He also performed in Japan in March 1995, but strangely, no recordings from this period were released at all. In the midst of all this, a 50-minute ultra-high quality recording that is thought to have been broadcast on FM at the time was released on the Internet, and this work is a remastered recording of that recording. This recording was billed as a broadcast sound source, but it is so clear that you would never think it was recorded on cassette tape, and you would suspect that it was a digital copy of the station master. You can enjoy this precious show to the fullest. What is surprising is the quality of the sound and the wonderful sound production at the live performance, especially the complex and profound flood of sound images from the studio albums, which is reproduced beautifully by the master Trower. The guitar, which is played one after another using choking, arm, pedal and guitar techniques, is sure to fascinate the listener. Trower was also the musical director at the live performance, but he also generously shows off his top-class playing as a guitarist. In addition to “Taxi” and “Mamouna”, Roxy standard numbers such as Out Of The Blue, Virginia Plain, Jealous Guy, Editions Of You, and Do The Strand are also arranged in a way that is unique to this period, and one of the highlights is Trower’s playing, which is a guitar solo with a Manzanera-like tone. In addition, the bass, especially in the fusion rhythm section, shows amazing technique. Of course, Ferry himself still has a fascinating singing voice and wows the audience. This rare live performance featuring two unusual big names, Ferry and Trower, is a must-listen for fans of both. Enjoy Ferry’s fascinating performance in 1995, brought back to life by a super high-quality stereo line recording that could even be released officially.
