Description
The Stone Pony, a club in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Springsteen’s hometown, is not only the club where he performed before his debut, but also a famous venue where he continues to make surprise appearances even after his success. This title is a compilation of Springsteen’s surprise gigs from 1977 to 1989. In short, it can be said to be a history of Springsteen’s appearances at local live houses. All of the recordings included here are audience recordings, and some of them are not high quality, even to put it mildly. These are not Springsteen, but people who were at the venue to see other artists’ live performances who happened to turn the tapes, and it can be said that they are very valuable just because they have been preserved as recordings. In fact, the recordings and performances included here are all rare items that have been released for the first time. It is a compilation that will make any enthusiast cry. Moreover, Springsteen’s collaborations with a wide range of artists, from unknown local artists to big names, are also very valuable in that they are recorded. There are also many records of his collaboration with his local ally Southside Johnny, and the rarest of them is included at the beginning (unfortunately the sound quality is not good). However, the most surprising thing about this title is the appearance of Springsteen jumping in when The Band’s Levon Helm appeared at the Stone Pony. The rare scene where he and Levon duet on The Band’s famous song Up On Cripple Creek is the highlight of this title, and the sound quality here is quite good. Another attractive point is that in collaborations with any artist, Springsteen plays rock and roll standards to make it easy for each other to play. In addition, he duets with Little Steven on the nostalgic Sun City, and the whole album shows Springsteen leaving his stage and enjoying playing freely in his hometown. It is a very fulfilling item with a high level of rarity, with a parade of first-time releases.
