Description
In 1998, Brian May lost not only Freddie Mercury, but also Cozy Powell, his ally who started his solo career. A valuable live album from such a 2nd solo tour is now available. This work includes “Nottingham performance on October 24, 1998”. This is a masterpiece audience recording that records the whole story. The 1st solo tour in which Koji also participated is famous for the official work “LIVE AT THE BRIXTON ACADEMY”, but the 2nd tour is valuable. First, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position. [April 5th: Cozy Powell passed away] May 16th: TV appearance [“ANOTHER WORLD” released on June 1st] June 5th-16th: Europe #1 (4 performances) September 12th Sunday – November 7th; Europe #2 (28 performances) ←★This work★・November 10th-14th: Japan (4 performances)・November 20th-28th: Australia (4 performances) This is 1998 Brian. Cozy also participated in his second solo album, ANOTHER WORLD, but died in an accident before it was completed. Brian finished the album with Steve Ferrone and FOO FIGHTERS’ Taylor Hawkins, and began touring. The Nottingham performance of this work was the 20th concert of “Europe #2”, which was the main leg of the tour. This work that recorded that show is an exquisite audience recording. There is no close contact like a soundboard, and it is just a recording of the audience seats with a sense of space, but the atmosphere is transparent and clear. The responsive core comes straight to your fingertips, and the details are vivid. Although the bass is a little recessed, the gorgeous guitar and vocals are very beautiful, and the harmony with the female chorus is such that you can hear each individual singing voice. What is depicted with such a sound is a memorial show where you can feel the presence of Cozy while playing a large number of QUEEN’s famous songs than the 1st tour. Let’s organize the content of the show here. ●QUEEN (11 songs)・A Night at the Opera: Love Of My Life/’39・Splendid Race: Tie Your Mother Down・Dedicated to the World: We Will Rock You・JAZZ: Fat Bottomed Girls・THE WORKS: Tear It Up /Hammer To Fall・THE MIRACLE: I Want It All・INNUENDO: Headlong/The Show Must Go On ・QUEEN ROCKS: No-One But You ●Solo and others (12 songs)・BACK TO THE LIGHT: Last Horizon/Driven By You /Resurrection・ANOTHER WORLD: Space/China Belle/On My Way Up/Another World/All The Way From Memphis・Others: Only Make Believe/C’mon Babe・Cozy memorial cover: Dance With The Devil/Since You Been Gone… …and it looks like this. Although the five songs from “ANOTHER WORLD” are the core, the balance that about half of the show is QUEEN (although there is also a medley arrangement) is better than “LIVE AT THE BRIXTON ACADEMY”. The number on the cozy edge is also featured. The highlight is the opening part where the cozy relationship begins. As Cozy’s hit single “Dance With The Devil” begins the show, “Brian’s estranged cousin from Tennessee” appears. The real person is Brian himself, and on set he wears a red suit with black hair tied up in a regent and sings the oldies “Only Make Believe” and “C’mon Babe.” Then, after the overture “Space”, the man himself (?) appeared, dressed, and strummed the riff “Since You Been Gone”! After the performance, he also introduced Cozy and declared that it was because of him that this solo tour was possible. The tribute to his ally wrapped up in a comical and humorous production is truly stylish and wonderful. Of course, this work is a live album with only sound, but if you experienced the Japan performance 21 years ago, many people will vividly remember Brian’s appearance in disguise. The show started in earnest with “Since You Been Gone,” and also included “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Tear It Up,” “I Want It All,” and “The Show Must Go On,” which were not heard at “LIVE AT THE BRIXTON ACADEMY.” He also performed “No-One But You”, which was released under the name QUEEN the previous year. Of course, you can also enjoy plenty of new songs from “ANOTHER WORLD”, which was the latest version of Brian’s HR. “ANOTHER WORLD TOUR” is not widely available on bootlegs, perhaps because of Cozy’s absence. However, the scene was even more colorful than the first tour, and the presence of our allies was felt strongly. This work is a masterpiece of a live album where you can experience the full stage with wonderful sound. Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK 24th October 1998 PERFECT SOUND Dsic 1(63:19) 1.
