Description
We have a special recording of the Mehldau Quartet, recorded in official quality at a special session for broadcast at a theater in Utricht, the Netherlands. This session features wind instruments selected by Mehldau himself, bass clarinet, and Joris Roelos, a young and up-and-coming Dutch saxophonist born in 1984, on clarinet. The addition of wind instruments to Mehldau’s recent live performances is very rare, and Joris’ playing expresses the sound that Mehldau is looking for. The bass is played by Clemens van der Veen, who has also participated in Joris Roelos’ solo albums and the albums of the popular and talented European jazz guitarist Jesse van Ruler. With the participation of this young and talented player, Mehldau’s masterpieces are expressed here in an ensemble never heard before, with the highest quality sound, so you won’t want to miss it!
