Description

The audience album for Boz Scaggs’ latest performance in Japan, which took place this month, has arrived. Initially, only two performances were scheduled for Tokyo, but tickets quickly sold out, and additional performances were announced, proving the band’s continued popularity. This Japan tour had a total of 8 performances from Sapporo to Osaka, but this work was recorded at “June 11th, Tokyo Bunkamura Orchard Hall” performance. This is the second day of the three Tokyo performances. It uses the same taper as Jackson Browne’s “STANDING IN TOKYO BREACH: TOKYO 2015 FINAL NIGHT,” which became a hot topic for its high sound quality. Although it was a gift title, it was held at the same venue as the masterpiece that received a great response, and the result is a sound that you can feel at ease and immerse yourself in. In fact, it is natural that the sound produced by the latest digital equipment has no noise, cracks, or distortion at all, and is simply rich and detailed. The way the deep musical tones are mixed with faint reverberations and spreads through the venue is filled with a sense of transparency. The audience’s applause and cheers are clearly recorded, making this a vivid yet beautiful recording. Boz’s show, colored by such sounds, is also truly beautiful. Following his previous work “MEMPHIS”, which was said to be a “heartfelt work”, Boz has once again created a new work “A FOOL TO CARE” with a rich R&B flavor. In the first half, while focusing on the R&B taste of the two recent albums, the show is carried out magnificently, with popular songs such as “Jojo” in between. In the middle of the song, “Miss Sun,” you can hear the interaction with Miss Monet of the black chorus, and in the following “Until You Come Back To Me,” Monet sings solo. Boz adds flair with his guitar. This is a famous song by Steve Wonder and Aretha Franklin, but Monet’s soulful singing voice is truly stunning, and the venue gets even more excited. And the second half of the show is the highlight. The new songs include “There’s a Storm Coming,” and they performed hit songs from the famous album “SILK DEGREES” one after another. This tatami-kake continues into the encore, reaching its peak with “We’re All Alone.” When it was over, 6 of the 10 songs from “SILK DEGREES” became big hits. You can clearly see the venue getting excited with this AOR rush, and it slowly warms our hearts as we listen. This reality, this sense of presence is the taste unique to the finest audience recording. And the final surprise is the second encore. They sang a cover of Fats Domino, and after introducing the members, they called out their new song, “Last Tango on 16th Street.” Although they did not perform the previous day, June 10th, they came here to show off their active performance by closing with a new song, tango. The show exudes an active feel with its R&B taste, but is filled with excitement with a wide selection of songs and a rush of famous songs. Boz celebrated his 71st birthday (Sapporo performance) during this Japan tour, and this time as well, he charmed us with his majestic stage as well as his singing voice. This is a vacuum-packed recording of that concert with a beautiful and vivid audience recording.
