Description

To commemorate the release of Dylan & The Band’s masterpiece “HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM 1974 REVISITED”, we have prepared the first audience recording of “Tour 74”. What is recorded here is the show at the Houston Pavilion, which was held exactly one week after the Hollywood Sportatorium performance. Conveniently, two stages were held on this day, but the one recorded on this CD is the second, that is, the evening show. This is the sound source that captured that episode, but even though it is a stereo recording and does not reach the Hollywood Sportatorium, the sound image of the performance is large and spacious. What’s more, it was published by JEMS. However, cuts occur between most of the songs, and for example, cuts such as “The Weight” and “Forever Young” cut into the intro, making it difficult to listen to. In addition, the last three songs are not recorded, and a different audience recording with inferior sound quality is used for them. And the overall pitch is off. I see, that was the reason why it did not become a hot topic even though it was a sound source released by JEMS. Therefore, when making this CD, the pitches that were different between the main song and the last three songs of the different sound sources were adjusted. This alone made it much easier to listen to than the way it appeared on the internet. When you listen to it at the correct pitch, you will be surprised at how good the stereo sound quality is. That’s why it’s a shame that the recording condition was such that the gaps between songs were cut so drastically. And it was around this point that the set list started to lack variety, but Dylan’s singing style was still not as exaggerated as in “The Great Resurrection,” and by the time February rolled around, there was a lot of unevenness depending on the day. Rick Danko and Richard Manuel’s songs are in great condition. Still, one of the highlights is that the performance has become tighter overall compared to the Hollywood Sportatorium. Although the sound sources themselves are abundant, the high-quality sound sources are limited, so from “Tour 74”, we have luxuriously released valuable sound sources that have never been released before. Moreover, even though it was in a difficult state, the pitch has become more accurate, so it has been upgraded to a state where you can suddenly hear it. Please enjoy the comparison with “HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM 1974 REVISITED” from a week ago! Hofheinz Pavilion, Houston, TX, USA 26th January 1974 Evening Show TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 (54:40) 01.
