Description

This is a rare video that captures the audience shot of the Frejus performance in France from Dylan’s European tour in the early summer of 1989. The two songs that were played at the beginning of the show were not recorded, and the photo was taken after the third song, “You’re A Big Girl Now,” started, but even with today’s eyes, Dylan’s appearance is surprising. The close-up angle is well worth seeing. The audience shot that captured Dylan’s stage in this era had the dilemma that if the close-up was effective, it would just capture him forever, and the angle would be monotonous and it would get boring to watch. However, the best part of this video is that it captures GE Smith playing a solo properly during the interlude. Not only that, but bassist Tony Garnier, who is now the oldest member of the Dylan band and joined from this tour, is also clearly reflected, so you won’t get bored. Unfortunately, when “I Don’t Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)” started, there was a tape change and filming stopped, and then a second change was made at “In The Garden”. This is also hardly recorded. However, when filming resumed and the performance scene of “Highway 61 Revisited” could be seen, there was a scene that made you believe your eyes. To my surprise, Ringo Starr was playing the cymbals next to Dylan Band drummer Christopher Parker! When it came to the finale before the encore, “Like A Rolling Stone,” Parker gave up the drummer’s seat in the middle of the performance, and from there there was a very rare scene where Ringo played the main drum. You can’t help but lean in as you can see this from a spectacular angle. There was a very good audience recording on this day, and a masterpiece called “RINGO KID & THE GUNFIGHTERS” was released in the past. However, the two songs in which Ringo joined the band were not rhythmically difficult to perform, and listening only to the audio, his surprise participation could hardly be conveyed. However, when you look at the video like this, you are overwhelmed by the size of the apple’s presence. Among them, at the end of “Like A Rolling Stone”, Dylan turns to him, and Ringo responds with a smile and finishes the performance, which is a wonderful moment. What’s more, currently on YouTube you can only see the gospel classic “Peace In The Valley” played in the encore from this day’s video, and the important scene where Ringo appears has not been uploaded. On top of that, this video first appeared on the internet nearly 10 years ago. There are probably many enthusiasts who have never seen this video, and who don’t even know that a joint like this between Dylan and Ringo took place in 1989. Although it is such a rare video, the angle and sound quality are surprisingly excellent. And if the limited press CD “DEFINITIVE FINAL NIGHT 1987” released this time is a famous sound source in which George jumped into Dylan’s stage, this one is a sister one where Ringo jumps in. Now you can complete the surprise stage of Dylan and former Beatles that took place in the late 80’s! Les Arenes, Frejus, France 13th June 1989 AMAZING SHOT (64:01) 1. You’re A Big Girl Now 2.
