Description

Recorded with the finest audience recording of the 1988 East Troy performance. It was a sound source in recorded condition that I can be sure is excellent just from the sound image alone, but the part where the performance started in the first song “Subterranean Homesick Blues” is missing, and the climax at the end of the live performance is missing. Contrary to its high sound quality, the ending part of “Like A Rolling Stone” was not recorded, but it was a sound source that did not attract much attention from enthusiasts due to the negative point that there were some cut points scattered. It is true that there are some soundboard recordings of the 1988 tour, and there are also high-level audience recordings. However, in terms of sound quality, this sound source is on par with such sound sources, and for this release, we have supplemented it with another audience recording that exists on the same day, including detailed cuts, to achieve a complete recording. I used that sound source for the opening part of “Subterranean Homesick~” earlier, but there was a considerable difference in the sound image between this supplement and the sound source itself, and when listening to the beginning of the song, I could hear the front sound from the seats at the back of the venue all at once. You will be able to experience the overwhelming sound quality of the upper, as if you had jumped up to low. The sound quality of the live performance itself boasts exceptional clarity. Similar corrections have also been made to the ending part of “Like A~”, which was a major drawback, and the interlude before the encore. In detail, even the subtle cut at around 0:28 of “All Along Watchtower” has been adjusted. Not only is the sound quality good, but the splendor of the performance on this day is also exceptional. After parting ways with the large band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with whom he had been performing for a long time, in 1988 Dylan started live performances with a fresh start with a simple lineup of only four members, including himself. Ta. Guitarist GE Smith played an important role in this band. He played an unsung role as a guitarist in the Hall & Oates Band, but when H&O went on hiatus, he left the band and became active as a session guitarist and a member of the house band for the TV show “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.” However, from 1988, he became the leader of Dylan’s band, which brought him into the spotlight even more. With the simple and straightforward band sound centered around him, Dylan’s live sound, which has literally been reborn, is simply powerful! It’s guaranteed that you’ll be overwhelmed by the way they play and sing so hard. Its awesomeness is still exceptional when you listen to it with a high-quality audience recording like this time. It’s a little different from a sound board that is too clear and doesn’t convey the dynamism of the performance. However, the first half of the song is full of electric performances, and then the acoustic corner featuring just Dylan and GE Smith is amazing. As for the song selection, choices such as the 60’s austere “Mama You Been On My Mind” will make enthusiasts groan. Moreover, you will fall in love with Dylan’s delicate singing, which is a complete change from the hard singing style of his electric songs. Moreover, in the encore, there is a special song called “Blowin’ In The Wind”. We have restored this flawless recording that combines a strong sound image and a sense of presence, and the rare sound source of the new Dylan from 1988, hard and enthusiastic live, will be released!
