Description

During Bob Dylan and Tom Petty’s 1986 US tour, several PA-out soundboards were leaked, but as with most sound sources of that kind, many of them were spread in an incomplete state. However, unlike the ZEP 70s soundboard, Dylan’s basic one show was recorded in full, and it was confirmed that even the sound sources that were circulating in an incomplete form in the series of 1986 soundboards were recorded in full. The release of “BONNER SPRINGS 1986 SOUNDBOARD” was a shock to enthusiasts around the world who confirmed this. For a long time, only the second half of the live performance was available on that soundboard, and because of that, we couldn’t hear “Kansas City”, which was the special opening of the day. However, the title of the album made enthusiasts say “I’m so glad” that the opening of the album was also captured firmly on the soundboard. The wonderful sound quality is also a big attraction, and it can be said that it was a meaningful release in the sense that it shows how easy it is to hear Dylan’s 1980s PA soundboard. With such a shocking release still fresh in our memory, the overseas collector who provided us with the full-length version of Bonner Springs on July 24th again provided us with the Red Rocks on the 26th. This was the next show after Bonner Springs, and it was also the day when only an extremely incomplete soundboard was available. This day was also only available with the final part of the live performance recorded, and in the past, only two songs were included as bonuses in “THERE IS A PLACE OF BROKEN DREAMS”, which recorded the 1986 soundboard on another day, which also speaks to the state of the sound source. Not only that, the version that was circulating among traders in the past was not only incomplete but also downgraded to mono, which meant that Dylan’s passionate performance in the second half of the live performance on this day was not conveyed. The PA soundboard from the first day of Red Rocks, which has been treated so unfortunately, was once again provided by the collector of “BONNER SPRINGS 1986 SOUNDBOARD”. Yes, the full-length version has finally been excavated. That’s not all, the sound board at Bonner Springs had some defects, but perhaps the engineers got used to it because it was the next live performance, and this time there were no recording errors (laughs). What a feat, not just a “full-length version” but a “complete recording”. In addition, the super clear stereo sound is incomparable to the previously available versions. As you may have already experienced at Bonner Springs, Dylan’s Eighties PA sound board has a very clear sound quality and a solid stereo feel centered on the drums. As expected, it is different from the precise stereo of a multi-track, but still, this clarity is truly wonderful. Furthermore, if you come across a complete recording of a magnificent show with no missing parts of Dylan and Petty, you can confidently recommend it even if you are not a maniac. If Bonner Springs is a show that showed the room to open with “Kansas City”, Dylan’s singing is really powerful on this day. On this day, not only was “Like A Rolling Stone” sung with more energy than the intense Bonner Springs, but the following “In The Garden” was also crisp. As I said at the beginning, the previous version did not convey such energy, so when you listen to it in this super clear stereo, you will be overwhelmed by the energy. On the contrary, if you listen to this complete sound board, you will be reminded that Dylan was already at full throttle right after the live started. He is in top form from “All Along The Watchtower”, which has a loose arrangement unique to this period. Furthermore, “Seeing The Real You At Last” is also much more high-tension than Bonner Springs. It’s not just a complete sound board, but the wonderfulness of the performance content is also revealed, so it’s a big deal. And this time, as a bonus, “I Shall Be Released” is recorded from a studio rehearsal held in 1985 with the Heartbreakers and Queens of Rhythm. However, this rehearsal itself is not the first appearance, it was already released on Rattlesnake’s “THE 1985 REHEARSAL TAPE” and was included at the beginning of Disc-1. However, while it was recorded for 2 and a half minutes there, it is recorded for 10 minutes here. Indeed, after 2 and a half minutes, Dylan stops singing, and the scene of the chorus Queens of Rhythm practicing endlessly continues. That’s why it was cut from the Rattlesnake version. However. Even after he stopped singing, he continued to lead the chorus while playing the Stratocaster. Dylan likes to rehearse in a way that lets the band adjust to what he likes around him, and the musicians involved have also testified to the same thing. That’s why it’s shocking that he was caught so enthusiastically arranging and practicing the backing chorus. This important scene was cut out of the Rattlesnake version, so it’s amazing that they provided us with an extremely rare long version as a bonus this time. The second soundboard from the 1986 Red Rocks series, with a great sound quality and great bonus content!
