Description

The Dylan live recordings being released at the same time will be even more surprising than the 1986 MSG. This is because the recordings from the 2004 tour will be released on a limited press CD. For many enthusiasts, 2004 is a “recent” image. Furthermore, it was a time when Dylan finally stopped playing the guitar and changed to a keyboard-based live sound, and the rock-like wildness faded. That’s probably the general image of Dylan’s live performance in 2004. However, enthusiasts know. In 2004, Dylan began his tour with an outstanding rock sound. The first tour of the year kicked off with a tour of the United States from the end of February to mid-April. However, all the venues were small club-class venues. Although Dylan had played club gigs between tours before, it was groundbreaking that he toured clubs so thoroughly. In addition, during this period, the guitar playing of Freddie Coella, who was a member of the band at the time, became a hot topic among enthusiasts. He joined the Dylan band in 2003. At first, he played a safe style, but suddenly he broke out during the fall European tour, and began to excite the audience with his rugged lead guitar. His playing here was rugged and had a strange wildness that made you think that Koella had started playing Dylan-style lead guitar instead of Dylan, who was devoted to the keyboard. By the first tour of 2004, Koella’s playing had been promoted to an incredible level. His rugged playing, while also possessing technique, attracted a lot of attention. Naturally, the sound of the entire band was also pulled by him and suddenly changed into an intense rock sound. Another element that made this tour legendary among enthusiasts is the unique band development that employed two drummers. In other words, even though there were two drummers, it was not a twin drum system, but when one of them sat at the drum kit, the other one took turns playing percussion. One of the drummers is George Lisely, who joined the band in 2002 and has been the drummer of the Dylan band ever since. The problem is the other drummer. They hired Richie Hayward, a former member of Little Feat who has since passed away. What a luxurious choice of drummer! The drummer is replaced by a guitarist who plays a unique style. This resulted in a spectacularly intense rock sound being played out every day at American clubs on the first tour of 2004. Perhaps because of the unique venue selection, it was difficult for the taper to secure a good position, but this tour was also a time when there were not many audience recordings. The only recording I have is “KOOL CAT PULLING OFF THE STRINGS” by RATLE SNAKE, which was recorded at the Toronto gig on March 21st. However, the title has a strong equalization feel that reflects the trend of the time, and is a typical sound production of the label. This title was highly praised by enthusiasts as it was released from the legendary club tour, but if you listen to it now, the equalization is quite impressive. Fortunately, good audience recordings have been unearthed over time, and this time, a club gig in Philadelphia on March 31st will be released. It has a wonderful sense of realism and clarity that is unique to the club, and the wild band sound unique to this time is raging there, and Dylan’s shouting to his heart’s content is captured in full detail. And the sound quality is natural above all. On this day, Dylan was at full throttle on “High Water” and it was great to hear him singing wildly. Of course, the performances that supported him were also the wildest, and in particular, in “Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again” and “Joey,” Koella exploded with a strong lead guitar as if he was going to confront Dylan. This period was also popular as a time when rare numbers were actively played, and the point here in Philadelphia is that “Saving Grace” from the gospel era was played. What’s more, you can’t miss the fact that it’s Hayward who is playing the drums here. And the bonus tracks are also full of intense performances. Bob Seger’s cover “Get Out Of Denver” was performed as an encore at a gig in his hometown of Detroit, but everyone will be stunned by the super-upper performance. Such an intense performance was performed in 2004! Since it is such a rare performance, it was also performed on the bonus of “KOOL CAT PULLING OFF THE STRINGS”, but it was recorded using a different sound source and with a much more natural sound quality this time. Another bonus is “Down Along The Cove”, a rare and extremely rock performance that represents this tour from the Boston performance. These bonuses are also audience recordings with excellent sound quality, and will be a release that will attract attention from enthusiasts around the world, condensing the charm of the 2004 club tour that finally appeared. Freddie Coella left the band at the end of this tour, so the strange and hard sound of this period is still not faded.
