Description
From the legendary ’79-’81 gospel period, the title “A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE” spotlighting the short tour in the United States from November to December 1980 is now available as a 3-disc set! Mainly featuring the longest high-quality stereo version of the Portland, Oregon performance on December 3, 1980, and also includes live rarities from the same short tour. This is truly a full-volume retrospective of the short tour at the end of 1980. It seems to follow (respect) the appearance and concept of the 3-CD set “A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE” released around 2000, but of course it is not just a reissue, but the content has been significantly upgraded. I am. Let me briefly review the events before and after this “A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE” tour… [1979] August album “Slow Train Coming” released (charts were also good) November 1st – December 9th North American gospel tour 1st leg (controversial as no familiar songs were played) [1980] January 11-February 9 North American gospel tour 2nd leg (again no familiar songs played) February 11-2 April 15th recording of 2nd gospel gospel tour “Saved” April 17th – May 21st 3rd leg of North American gospel tour (as expected, the following is omitted) Album “Saved” released in June (maybe due to the live performance, chart action is also not good) ) November 9th – December 4th North America A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE tour (unavoidable? Familiar songs are back) ★Recording period of this album [1981] March – May 3rd gospel album “Shot Of Love” recording June 10th – June 14th US tour June 21st – July 25th European tour August “Shot Of Love” released (charts still number one) October 16th – November 21st North American tour (however 11 (Canceled on May 21st) To summarize the flow of this period, the album “Slow Train Coming” was released in August 1979, and the tour began in November of the same year. However, it caused controversy and criticism because no standard songs were played at live performances. However, due to the impact on the response to the album “Saved” released in June 1980, the tour was postponed for a while, and the tour was resumed in November 1980 with the live show structure revised and new familiar songs included. Is this A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE? Currently, this tour has received high praise, and in recent years, the masterpiece box “TROUBLE NO MORE”, which focuses on this gospel period, has finally been released, and it is very rich and wonderful. However, this box was not fortunate enough to be recorded during the A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE tour, and the rare live performance on November 12th of the outtake “Caribbean Wind” recorded on the 1985 release “Biograph” It is fortunate that the performance was recorded, but other than that, only three live sound sources were selected from the A MUSICAL~ tour, and it is almost a loophole. Therefore, this disc will complement the box and will be the perfect item to further dig into this tour. The Portland, Oregon performance on December 3rd, which was recorded as the main part of this album, is similar to the best in sound quality during the same tour. In the previously released version, the AUD was monaural from the beginning until the beginning of “Watchtower”, and after the cut during “Watchtower” it switched to stereo AUD. Also, the monaural Aud part was a stereo Aud sound source that was monaural, and it seems that it is still being distributed among traders in this state. This time, for the part from the beginning to the beginning of Watchtower and the previously released and unreleased Gospel Corps track part, although the sound source is the same as the main stereo AUD, a different stereo AUD is used as a sub, and like the previous release, ” Although not all songs are completely recorded as there are cuts in several places such as “Man Gave Names”, by using a stereo AUD sound source of different branches as a sub, the entire song is in stereo, and the longest recording to date has been achieved (already (About 2 hours and 15 minutes in total, about 21 minutes longer than the original time). The Gospel Corps corner, including the opening three songs of the live show, which was omitted on the previously released version, has been followed up well, making it possible to get a better grasp of the whole picture of the live show at the time. Also, from the second half of Disc 2 to Disc 3, there are a lot of rarities tracks from this “A MUSICAL RETROSPECTIVE” tour. This also follows the concept of the previous release, but the song selection etc. are quite different, and different tapes were used for the performance take on the same day, so what was monaural on the previous release was recorded in stereo. The overall sound quality has also been significantly improved. Also, although the songs on the previously released editions were carefully selected, many of them were cut before and after the performance in order to force them to fit into the CD recording time (80 minutes), and some of them were recorded at an unusually fast tape speed. There were also some difficulties. In this edition, the pitch has been adjusted through careful mastering, and the performance part has been carefully followed up to the complete part, and the mastering has been done with careful attention to detail. Please refer to the track list below for details on the bonus tracks, which are packed with interesting things such as The Byrds’ version of “Mr. Tambourine Man”.
