Description

Bob Dylan’s latest tour has been a hot topic due to the major set list renewal and band member changes that have not been seen in recent years. First of all, Jim Keltner has returned to the backing band on drums. What’s more, it’s amazing how much time has passed since the last time in 20 years. What’s even more surprising is the major change in the set list. The composition that had been compiled with songs from recent albums for many years until April this year has suddenly been renewed, and this time the set list that has revived past numbers all at once has surprised maniacs all over the world. The opening is an aggressive opening with “Highway 61 Revisited”. From there, “Shooting Star” and “Love Sick”, masterpieces that have not been performed for a long time, are performed one after another. Dylan’s singing of the latter in particular is the best. After such a series of masterpieces at the beginning, a surprising cover song follows. It is “Little Queenie”, a song by Chuck Berry familiar to rock fans in the Stones version, which Dylan happily sings. Following this rock and roll classic was “Mr. Blue.” Unless you’re a real fanatic, you’ll probably be confused by the title, but it’s actually an old song recorded in the 1967 “BASEMENT TAPES” session. Dylan’s enthusiasm is apparent in the fact that he doesn’t just change the set list, but also brings out these numbers. “Can’t Wait” and “Under The Red Sky” were also performed for the first time in a long time, but in the second half of the show, the country classic “Six Days On The Road” was also an impactful selection and seemed to fit Dylan’s repertoire well, so I can’t help but look forward to his future performances. And the finale “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” which could be said to be a survivor from the previous set list, has been transformed into a completely intense arrangement, and Dylan sings it with high tension. Given the reality of Dylan’s age in recent years, it seemed like he was heading straight for maturity, so this intense performance was also surprising. The live performances of the past few years, which mainly focused on recent works and brought out the maturity of the band, were good, but it is a delight for enthusiasts to see Dylan rocking like this time. The audience recording, which has undergone a major change as if to announce a return to rock, has a very close sound image, and Dylan’s voice is particularly on-balance. On the other hand, since this day was a festival organized by Willie Nelson, it picked up the conversations of people who were not there for Dylan (if that hadn’t happened, I might have been able to go with the press), but the overwhelming sound pressure also conveyed the power of this exciting stage without any omissions. Dylan’s latest stage, which has undergone such a sudden and major change, is amazing! Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, Raleigh, NC, USA 23rd June 2024 ULTIMATE SOUND 1.
