Description
Bob Dylan’s 1984 Rome performance was held three times, but the first day, June 19th, has long been popular with enthusiasts due to the leaking of PA-out sound boards, and the definitive version is still the best-selling “ROME 1984 1ST NIGHT”. PA sound boards have also leaked in fragments for the other two days, and it was clear that the full picture of those stages was recorded. In the midst of this, the full-length sound board from June 21st, the final day of Rome, will finally be excavated and released, following the ongoing series of excavations of PA-out sound boards from the 1984 European tour. The sound quality is truly amazing this time as well. The direct feeling of being poured directly from the listener’s ears to their brain is exceptional. The three days in Rome marked the beginning of the middle part of the 1984 European tour. At the beginning of the show, both Dylan and the band were on stage with a wait-and-see attitude, as seen in the previous “ROME 1984 1ST NIGHT”. In the first half of the show, Dylan was gauging the condition of the band, and when they got together around “Maggie’s Farm”, he seemed to be singing with great enjoyment. This must have given him the engine to go full throttle, as he surprisingly chose “Desolation Row” in the acoustic singing corner that day. This song was played almost every night in 1966, but it was not played at all since the 1970s, and its sudden revival on the second day in Rome was the first in 10 years since St. Louis in February 1974, and it surprised enthusiasts around the world since 1984. The performance begins with Dylan trying to start “It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” just like the two days in Rome, but suddenly he changes his mind and switches to “Desolation Row”, as you can see on the PA sound board. Just being able to hear this super rare 1984 version of “Desolation Row” on a super clear sound board is sure to be a shocking discovery for enthusiasts, but the performance is also wonderful. Dylan’s singing is so powerful that it’s hard to believe that this is the first performance in 10 years, and this kind of performance should have been multi-tracked for “REAL LIVE”. Still, it’s fortunate that the PA sound board captured it in this way. Dylan, who reached the next level from this performance, incited the band when they joined again, and Dylan’s lively singing on “Simple Twist Of Fate” and “Enough Is Enough” which leads the band from the intro are firmly recorded on the PA sound board. Also, in “Like A Rolling Stone,” Ian McLagan’s organ is louder than usual, and it’s refreshing to hear him clearly following the Al Cooper phrases heard in the original version. It’s something that’s often forgotten, but the PA out sound board was not originally recorded with the intention of releasing it, but was left by the staff for recording purposes only. Because of that, the sound board on this day was an incomplete recording without the encore recorded. Therefore, for this release, the live performance was completely recorded by supplementing it with Aud. This Aud has a sound image that is completely opposite to the sound board, which is the ultimate in closed sound, and has depth, and above all, the mild sound quality is wonderful. The sense of realism that comes from it is also excellent, and no one should feel unsatisfied when they switch from the sound board when they listen to this. Especially if it’s a record of the encore that gets the live performance going. As a result, it has become an invincible content that allows you to enjoy both the atmosphere from the stage side by the PA sound board and the excitement of the venue with one title. Not only can you hear the whole live performance, but you can also enjoy Dylan’s rampage during the encore, when there is no soundboard in the world. In particular, he goes out of control on his own, and the band almost can’t keep up with him on “Tombstone Blues” is a big laugh. This is a complete document of one of the most outstanding days in Rome, with the performance of the super rare “Desolation Row” and Dylan’s rampage encore.
