The 1984 tour, when “REAL LIVE” was later released, became a hot topic as Mick Taylor, who had been on the “INFIDELS” sessions the previous year, and Ian McLagan, formerly of the Faces, joined the band. Rehearsals for the European tour, which began at the end of May that year, began in late May. Disc 1 contains a 76-minute recording of the dress rehearsal at the Beverly Theater in LA on May 23rd, recorded on a stereo soundboard with the highest quality ever. Previously, there was some hissing and pitch issues, but all of the details have been meticulously adjusted to produce a perfect quality recording. Disc 2 also contains 65 minutes of recordings that are believed to be a continuation of the rehearsal on the 23rd, or a rehearsal on another day in LA, as Dylan is playing the unfinished song “Almost Done” that he was trying out on the 23rd again, although the details are unknown. In both cases, Dylan already seems to let Taylor play his guitar however he likes, and he immediately shows off his skills in “Shelter From The Storm,” and when it comes to “Man Of Peace,” the band’s performance is overwhelming, as if it were a real show. It is also interesting to see Dylan actively trying out unfinished songs and Willie Nelson covers, and the unfinished song “War Time, War Time, War Time” is a hard rock number that Dylan would have written in the 1980s, while the quiet “Almost Done” has an acoustic arrangement that is reminiscent of “Born In Time” after the band joined, which is interesting to compare. Therefore, this is the culmination of the 1984 tour rehearsals, condensed with passionate performances that you would never think were before the tour started, in the best quality. Disc 1 : 1.
