Description
Live performances from 1988 to 1990 when guitarist GE Smith, who is extremely popular among Dylan maniacs, was enrolled. During the golden period, which spanned three years, the standard of performance was extremely high on any given day, and each year had its own characteristics, making any show interesting to listen to. Even if you listen to the same tour sound source continuously, you will never get tired of listening to it. Therefore, this time we will release the best sound source from the 1989 European tour on a limited press CD. This tour is also very interesting. The only songs that were played every time were “I Shall Be Released” and “Like A Rolling Stone,” and the songs changed drastically from the opening. Rare cover songs pop up a lot. In the end, even the development of the performance changes depending on Dylan’s mood. That is why it is no exaggeration to say that it is worth listening to the entire tour. This release is a live performance held in Athens, the capital of Greece, on June 28th. In addition, this tour has the highest level of audience recording rolling around, and it is still fresh in my memory that last year’s famous performance at The Hague was released as “HAGUE 1989” on June 10th. As the title indicated, the audience recording of this tour really has a good sound. The sound quality of Athens this time is also amazing. This is a powerful sound image that makes you want to call it “just like a sound board,” and you will be stunned by the balance that is on, as if you were listening to Dylan and his friends in the front row. As was the case with “HAGUE 1989,” this time too, it is a superb sound source that can be listened to with confidence without any problems, from beginners to enthusiasts. This is the perfect format for a limited press CD. Even if the sound board recording of this day were leaked, you may not be able to enjoy the realism that conveys both the realism of the live performance and the power of the performance. 1989 was also the year when the guitar combination of Dylan and GE Smith changed. Until then, GE had been the lead guitar player and Dylan had focused on the rhythm, but from this year on, he started playing lead and riff phrases in earnest. On this day, when the performance was about to end with the last “Maggie’s Farm”, Dylan started playing the riff and the blues jam began, but this is a scene that can be called typical of 1989. Moreover, the sound quality is good, so you can clearly hear the guitar work of each of the two players. The content is also amazing. The sound is so good that you can clearly hear Dylan’s switch turning on from around “Shelter From The Storm”, and his singing becomes more and more heated. And the first thing I heard that day was “Every Grain Of Sand”. Surprisingly, it was performed here as an acoustic version with only GE and the two of them. This was a really wonderful performance, and it was a performance that looked great on the acoustic guitar, but it was also a very valuable live version, as it was still the only time it was played in a completely acoustic format. In the middle of the live performance, a rare country cover called “House of Gold” by Hank Williams is played, and perhaps because he is singing his own favorite song, Dylan’s energetic singing makes for a wonderful performance. It shows. As a result, it was a very unusual pattern that this song was played from the usual “I Shall Be Released” to “Like A Rolling Stone”, which interrupted the medley that concludes the main part of the live performance. The encore was also amazing. The curtain opened with a traditional cover of the 1988 tour, “Lakes Of Pontchartrain.” It’s fresh that it’s being played with a brighter and more powerful atmosphere than the previous year, and from there, when they play “The Times They Are A-Changin'” one after another, it seems like no one can stop Dylan. Finally, Van Morrison appeared and performed his own song. This song surprisingly harmonizes with Dylan, but that’s no wonder. The day before, when Morrison’s documentary “ONE IRSH ROVER” was being filmed by the BBC, Dylan also agreed to appear on it and the two of them met. Because they were playing the same two songs on the Hill of Athens. Thanks to this, the duet was perfect for the final day of the tour, with a sense of collaboration that stood out more than the roughness of the song. “Crazy Love” is especially excellent. Despite being a great sound source boasting such content and sound quality, the only previously released item that completely recorded the live performance was “HOUSE OF GOLD” released 10 years ago. Moreover, the items from the same label were simply CD versions of sound sources that had been circulating on the internet, and the high pitch, which was a drawback of the original sound source, remained perfunctory. That alone was bad enough, but even the gaps between tracks, which were caused by a mistake when burned to the CDs that were in circulation at the time, were still in place, which was a very poor production. However, this time, not only is it based on a better copy without such gaps, but above all, we have carefully adjusted the pitch deviation and promoted it to the definitive decision board. One of the best sound sources from the 1989 European tour, with good performance, good content, and even Van Morrison. I have nothing to complain about. ★Amazing super high sound quality. A pitch-corrected version is also available for the first time. Live at Panathenaikos Stadio, Athens, Greece 28th June 1989 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(UPGRADE) Disc 1(58:10) 1. Intro 2.
