Description

Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton toured Japan at the same time. Unfortunately, the two did not perform together in Japan, but here is the original master source of their precious studio performance! In 1986, Dylan, who had traveled to the UK, suddenly decided to perform the soundtrack recording session for the movie “HEARTS OF FIRE” starring Dylan. This time, we obtained a DAT that was digitally copied directly from the master reel of this sound source from a heavyweight taper living in the UK. The sound source of this session has been released in the past, but it was a cassette tape master at the time. Therefore, the hiss noise peculiar to cassette tapes covered the entire work. If you listen to this board, the silent parts before each song that start playing do not contain any hiss noise that was heard on the previous board. It can be said that it is a master of direct digital drop. The number of songs included is the same as the previously released version, but the vividness of this session, which can be said to be of official quality and clear sound quality, can be said to be something that cannot be experienced with previously released versions. This session took place on August 27th and 28th, 1986, at Townhouse Studios in London, produced and engineered by Beau Hill. According to Clapton, “Bob suddenly called me and asked me to participate in the recording,” which was a few days before the session. It can be said that Clapton, who is a strong believer in Bob, rushes to join even a sudden call. Moreover, it was a surprising fact that it was difficult to arrange a bassist for the same reason, and Ronnie Wood, who happened to have an open schedule, was called in to play bass. It was the first time he had played bass since the Jeff Beck Group in the late 1960s. Furthermore, it was the first time he had performed in a studio with Clapton since the recording session for Clapton’s 1976 album “NO REASON TO CRY.” And for drums, Henry Spinetti, who was the leading session drummer in the UK at that time, was called in. Fans will know that Spinetti was also a member of Clapton’s Japan tour band. This session was made possible by calling this big-name talent with just one phone call. All takes are complete by all members, so it’s worth listening to. You can see how the level of completion improves with each performance from the initial poor takes, and in Had A Dream About You, Baby, you can hear Dylan’s trial and error as he changes the rhythm pattern all the time. The guitar is played by only Dylan and Clapton, so it’s easy to tell them apart. What makes you think, “As expected,” is Clapton’s sharp obbligato, which really livens up the song. Ronnie’s bass is also a guitarist, so he plays a beautifully lyrical bass line.
