In 2017, the audience recording of a live performance in late 1965 entitled “2 uncirculated shows from 1965” became a hot topic among Dylan fans around the world. The recording was made by the poet Allen Ginsberg as a friend of Dylan, and the clarity of the sound was also a hot topic. The first track is a live performance in San Francisco on December 11th of that year. Although the first track “She Belongs To Me” is not included, the oldest live version of “Visions Of Johanna,” which was being experimented with in the studio at the time, is super rare. At that time it was still called “Freeze Out.” The electric set in particular was tight and energetic, and although it was said that there was a storm of booing at the time, the audience listened carefully to the band’s performances in these two shows, and the audience was stunned by the excitement of the cheers as soon as the band began playing “Positively 4th Street” and “Like a Rolling Stone”. He also accompanied Dylan to record a live performance in San Jose on the following day, the 12th, and although “Freeze Out” (aka “Visions of Johanna”) was not played during the acoustic set that day, the entire set was recorded from the opening instead. The sound quality on this day was even better than the previous day, and as a result, it can be said to be the highest quality of Dylan’s 1965 audience tapes that exist. The fact that it was recorded by Ginsberg makes it immeasurably rare, and what’s more, he met with Dylan in his dressing room before the shows and during intermissions at each of the two concerts, and he recorded those conversations, which are included as bonus tracks at the end of discs 2 and 4 of the 4-CD set.
