Description

BLACKMORE’S NIGHT is currently working on their 12th studio album, and their live performances have also increased. A live album that lets you fully experience their latest stage has arrived. This work is recorded during the “Nowalk Performance on June 23, 2024”. It is a superb audience recording that tells the whole story. Until 2019, BLACKMORE’S NIGHT was in parallel with RAINBOW, but their activities have rapidly decreased since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this year, as news of the album production arrived, their live performances have suddenly become more lively. This is a good opportunity, so let’s take a longer look at their recent activities. 2020, March 28 + April 9 “MINSTREL HALL 2020” 2021, November 17: Lindenhurst performance 2022, May 19 + 20: North America #1 (2 performances) 2022, October 28-November 11: North America #2 (3 performances) 2023, October 27-November 5: North America #3 (3 performances) 2024, June 22-July 6: North America #4 (6 performances) ←★ Here ★ This is BLACKMORE’S NIGHT after 2020. The last one I reported was the home live “MINSTREL HALL 2020” during the pandemic. After that, there were only a few stages a year, and the situation seemed to be semi-retirement. There are still not many this year, but the “tour format” of repeating travel and stages has returned for the first time in a long time. The Norwalk performance of this work was the second concert at the beginning of “North America #4”. This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is a neat and light beautiful recording. A vivid core penetrates straight through the clear and transparent air, reaching your ears with fine details. Not only the guitar, but also the tambourine, violin, and various percussion instruments are clearly drawn one by one, and each sound overlaps in a complex way, but never mixes. What is particularly surprising is the deep bass. In audience recordings, the sound tends to be spoiled and sparse, or conversely, it tends to crack due to excessive input, but this work captures the peak of the sound beautifully, and the vibe that rises from there like an aura can be felt in detail. This does not mean that the balance is dominated by the deep bass. Rather, the bass does not come out in front, which is appropriate for an acoustic ensemble, but it reaches your ears as if sewing through the gaps of the ensemble. And the best part is the hall sound. It’s so subtle that you can hear it faintly when you listen carefully with headphones, but it has a tremendous effect. It gives an indescribable luster and thickness to the thin core of the acoustic, gives dynamism to the melody, and adds a sense of pouring to the harmony. In particular, unplugged works are more beautiful and moving to listen to at the venue than on a sound board with the core exposed, but this work captures such “beauty of the scene” beautifully. Such a beautiful sound is depicted as a full show that condenses the 27 years since the debut. Finally, let’s check the contents of the set. Before 2004 (7 songs + α) Under A Violet Moon: Under A Violet Moon / Durch Den Wald Zum Bach Haus / Wind In The Willows Fires at Midnight: Home Again / Midwinter’s Night (Dandelion Wine) Others: Soldier Of Fortune / Renaissance Faire After 2004 (8 songs) Village Lantern: World Of Stone / Village Lanterne Secret Voyage: Locked Within A Crystal Ball / Gilded Cage Autumn Sky: Darkness / Dance Of Darkness Others: The Temple of The King / Allan Yn N Fan … and so on. There is no clear division in BLACKMORE’S NIGHT’s activities, but in this article I have divided it into “2004”, the year of their last performance in Japan. Although it is not an even selection of all the albums, you can see that it is a best selection of songs selected widely without sticking to one era. On the other hand, the only songs that overlap with the previous report “MINSTREL HALL 2020” from four years ago are “Dandelion Wine”, “Soldier Of Fortune” and “Gilded Cage”. Richie has the image of focusing on famous classic songs, but that may be limited to hard rock. And Richie’s guitar is wonderful. The phrases that dance like play show the typical Richie style, there are almost no mistakes, and the unique sense of time is exquisite. Candice’s singing voice that seems to be close to the guitar is also beautiful. At 53 years old, her singing voice has not only improved, but also exudes a bewitching sexiness and powerful dynamism, and even a dignified elegance resides in her tolerance. Currently, she is working on her third solo album in parallel with the new work of BLACKMORE’S NIGHT, but she is no longer just the pretty figure she used to be, but has become a female singer with a rich career. Ritchie Blackmore will be turning 80 this year. It’s hard to imagine him returning to the world of hard rock again, but his acoustic guitar still spins beautiful sounds that know no decline. And his unique musical perspective is still clearly alive in BLACKMORE’S NIGHT. This work is the latest live album that allows you to enjoy “Ritchie in 2024” with beautiful sounds. The best audience recording of the “Nowalk performance on June 23, 2024”. The vivid core penetrates straight through the clear and transparent air, reaching your ears with fine details. Not only the guitar, but also the tambourine, violin, and various percussion instruments are clearly drawn one by one, and each sound overlaps in a complex way, but never mixes. You can fully experience the latest tour that was held for the first time in a long time with such a beautiful sound.
