Description

BLACK SABBATH in 1970 changed the history of heavy music with the masterpiece “Black Sabbath”. The legendary recording that conveys the scene has been upgraded to a complete version. It is now available on a meticulous mastering CD by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. What is engraved in this work is the broadcast sound source of “June 26, 1970 Berlin performance”. This is a brushed-up album of the masterpiece “BERLIN 1970”. This time, the length and sound have been upgraded, but before the contents of interest, let’s first look at the position of the show. Speaking of 1970, it was a start dash era when the two great masterpieces “Black Sabbath” and “Paranoid” were released in rapid succession and they were touring almost without a break. Let’s look back from such a dawning step. {January 9th: Single “Evil Woman” Released} January 13th-February 13th: UK (6 shows) {February 13th: “Black Sabbath” Released} March 4th-June 15th: Europe #1 (69 shows) {June 16th-21st: “Paranoid” Production} June 21st-October 26th: Europe #2 (46 shows) ←★Here★ October 30th-November 28th: North America (31 shows) December 5th-19th: Europe #3 (6 shows) This is the revolutionary year of 1970. The data from that time still has some ambiguities, and the details such as the number of shows above are not necessarily accurate. However, I think you can understand the general flow. In the midst of all this, the Berlin performance of this work was the beginning of “Europe #2”, which was immediately after the production of “Paranoid”. So, it’s not that simple to say that it was a “PARANOID Tour”. From this “Europe # 2”, the iconic works “DEFINITIVE MONTREUX 1970” and “BRUSSELS 1970” are also left, so let’s zoom in more detail. Details of Europe # 2 ・ June 21-25 (3 performances) ・ June 26: Berlin performance ← ★ This work ★ ・ June 27-August 25 (18 performances) ・ August 31 “DEFINITIVE MONTREUX 1970” ・ September 11-15 (4 performances) “PARANOID” released on September 18th” ・ September 20-October 2 (10 performances) ・ October 3 “BRUSSELS 1970” ・ October 16-26 (8 performances) The third famous recording after Montreux / Brussels The above is “Europe # 2” which produced a large number of historical masterpieces. Generally, the “BLACK SABBATH Tour” is considered to be up to “August 31” of “DEFINITIVE MONTREUX 1970”, and this work was a concert about two months before that. Such a Berlin performance is said to have been recorded on TV. Although no footage has been found, there are two reasons why it is said to have existed. One is a description that it was filmed in the famous book “HOW BLACK WAS OUR SABBATH”. The other is an actual recording that was broadcast. Yes, this work is the highest peak of that broadcast sound source! This show is also known for its chaotic recording circumstances. There are a lot of different recordings and different generations, and the live itself was mistakenly distributed as a plant performance, a Keel performance, a Fillmore performance, etc. There are even mixed records with other performances. Since I can’t explain all of them, I will omit them, and there are only two records worth talking about. It will be narrowed down to “A: a short broadcast sound source” and “B: the longest full audience recording”. The popular masterpiece “BERLIN 1970” was a straight permanent preservation of “A”, but this work is based on “A” and supplements the cuts with “B”. Furthermore, it has been polished with the “GRAF ZEPPELIN” master rig to update the longest and highest peak. Major upgrade with “precise noise processing” and “full length” The quality is overwhelming. “A” is the first pressing of the legendary LP “LIVE AT PLUMPTON”, but it has been significantly upgraded compared to the conventional “BERLIN 1970”. The biggest factor is the significant noise reduction. The low-pitched hum noise “buzzing” and the popping noise that was mixed in from the left and right channels are almost gone. In particular, the latter noise was said to be “impossible to remove. If you try to cut it out, the performance sound will also change”, but it has been beautifully removed by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering (the specific work is too technical to write, but it is a processing method that is possible only because it is a mono recording). In addition to the sound adjustment, this work is also a full live album. The position of “N.I.B.”, which was out of sync in “LIVE AT PLUMPTON”, has been corrected to the actual show, and the two cut songs “Fairies Wear Boots” and “Wicked World” have been added from the “B” master. You can listen to all the songs from that day (the main broadcast sound source is also a microphone, and it has a high affinity with audience recording). And after the main live performance, just like the previous “BERLIN 1970”, two radio commercials from that time are also included as bonuses. One is a commercial for “Black Sabbath” broadcast in the UK in 1970, and the other is a promotion for the US tour in the fall of 1970 (the “North American” leg mentioned above). These two types have also been polished by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” mastering, and the phase shift has been perfectly corrected to make them the best version that will be preserved forever. This is the third broadcast sound source after the two great masterpieces of early Sabbath, “DEFINITIVE MONTREUX 1970” and “BRUSSELS 1970”. This is a new masterpiece that updates the longest and highest peak. The legendary recording of “BLACK SABBATH Tour”, which greatly changed the future of heavy music, is in the best condition. (Remastering memo) Based on the previous version, the last two songs were supplemented with a different source, and the order of the NIB songs was also corrected to reproduce the longest chronological version on the day. The main part is somewhat clearer with the hum noise removed, and the left and right crackling noise is irritating to the ears, so it is mono. It is originally a mono recording, so there is no problem. This makes it easier to hear somewhat without the crackling noise on the left and right. The last two songs have a soft hissing noise (although it is still quite noticeable). In addition, the cheers after the live performance were recorded in duplicate, so they were deleted. The last bonus commercial has also been phase corrected. A full live album from the “June 26, 1970 Berlin Performance”. Based on the best recording of the TV broadcast, this is the longest version, supplementing the cut “Fairies Wear Boots” and “Wicked World” with separate recordings. Moreover, the sound itself has been upgraded with meticulous mastering by “GRAF ZEPPELIN”. The low-frequency hum noise and the crackling noise in the left and right channels, which were previously thought to be impossible to correct, have been corrected, and a rare radio commercial from that time is also included as a bonus. This is the third masterpiece, following “DEFINITIVE MONTREUX 1970” and “BRUSSELS 1970”. Audimax, Der Freier University, Berlin, West Germany 26th June 1970 BROADCAST MASTER (UPGRADE) (57:56) 1.
