Description
The best soundboard album from the Cozy Powell era has been improved. It has been decided to be permanently preserved with the ultimate specification of “official replacement”. The main feature of this work is the ultra-superior stereo soundboard recording of “September 6, 1989 Manchester Performance”. Yes, this is an upgraded version of the shocking masterpiece “MANCHESTER 1989: PRE-FM MASTER”! The biggest point of this work is the ultimate upgrade, but before touching on its contents, first let’s talk about the show’s position. Speaking of “HEADLESS CROSS TOUR”, it is also a rich harvest area where powerful soundboards/pro shots frequently occur. First of all, let’s organize the collection from the dates at that time. [“HEADLESS CROSS” released on April 24th]・May 31st – June 14th: North America (11 performances)・August 31st – September 11th: UK (10 performances) ←★Here★・September 14th – October 2nd: Europe (14 performances) → “DEFINITIVE VIENNA 1989” October 14th – 21st: Japan (5 performances) → “OSAKA 1989 SOUNDBOARD” November 19th – December 8th: Russia (20 performances) → “HEADLESS IN RUSSIA (2 performances)” This is BLACK SABBATH in 1989. A total of 4 and 5 performance sound boards (pro shots) have been born from all legs other than “North America”, and the Manchester performance of this work is the earliest among them. This was the 6th concert of the “UK” tour. [The highest peak sound board from the Cozy era has been upgraded] This show has been known for its FM sound source for a long time, but it was significantly upgraded in 2015. The pre-broadcast master “MANCHESTER 1989: PRE-FM MASTER (hereinafter referred to as the previous edition)” was discovered. And what shocked me was the quality. Until then, the leaked soundboard of the Vienna performance “DEFINITIVE VIENNA 1989” was the highest peak, but it surpassed it at once. The most intense thing is the mix. “DEFINITIVE VIENNA 1989” was also excellent, but it was of the type directly connected to the mix table, and although it was raw, it did not have a “well-organized work feel.” However, since Manchester’s last edition was intended for broadcasting, the mix and balance were optimized for home audio. It was a “live album that felt like a work” that could be listened to in the same way as an official product. The famous edition, literally the “best masterpiece of the Cozy era” and “official replacement,” became one of BLACK SABBATH’s biggest hits, and was sold out and out of print in an instant. This work is a reprint and an upgraded version. It is the ultimate version that has been polished with careful mastering and also includes delicious bonus tracks. First, the sound. In fact, there were two types of pre-FM soundboards that appeared on the internet at that time, one was a master master, and the other was a remastered board by overseas enthusiasts. The previous edition was based on the latter, but added fine noise correction, but this time it’s different. We have refined it from the ground up and brought out the full potential of the original sound. In fact, the sound is really rich. The original sound is the same, so it’s not completely different, but compared to the previous version, which had a slightly stronger high-pitched sound, the balance of this work is more natural. Neil Murray’s bass line is especially delicious. In the previous edition, it was dominated by the crisp and high-pitched cozy snare, but in this album, it is completely antagonistic. The lines full of poetic spirit intertwine with Koji’s dynamism, but they do not merge, but complement each other strongly. Of course, Neil & Cozy all participate in “TYR”, but for some reason Neil’s bass was mixed in a bit. On the other hand, in this work, two masters are completely antagonistic. In a sense, it embodies Cozy Sabbath’s ideal sound that surpasses even that super masterpiece “TYR”. [Bonus tracks that also cover official rare tracks] The main story alone will fill you up, but this work also includes 2 types and 3 additional delicious bonus soundboards. One is “Cloak & Dagger,” the only song from the Cozy era that was not included in the album. The other is the soundboard live “Heaven And Hell” and “Paranoid/Heaven And Hell (reprise)” in Moscow. Both are takes released as the B-side of the single, and cover official rare tracks from the Cozy era (there are also slightly shorter edited versions, but the main ones are That’s all). A bonus that covers the official rare tracks on the top soundboard of Manchester, which is the “official replacement”. Yes, this work is also a disc that embodies the idea that “If HEADLESS CROSS’s Dera Eddy is realized, the bonus disc should be like this”. Although commercially it did not become a trend of the times, musically BLACK SABBATH of the Cozy Powell era was comparable to the Ozzy era/Ronnie era. This work is the closest CD to the “official live album” that has been coveted by maniacs all over the world but has not yet been realized. A deluxe edition of “HEADLESS CROSS” that has been rumored many times but never materialized. I would really like it to be realized, but this is the ultimate semi-official edition that seems to have taken advantage of the bonus disc.
