Description
SABBATH’s first performance in Japan in 1980 is known for its audience recording of the entire schedule. However, previously, the November 18th Nakano Sunplaza performance that was broadcast on the radio had an overwhelming presence, and that air check source has created many standard items. Among them, the FM source included in “DEMONIZATION”, which is a compilation of the live performance on the 18th with three different sound sources, has been well-regarded as the best material that has appeared so far. The clear and enjoyable sound and the texture of the different mixes surprised fans as they were comparable to soundboard sound sources derived from mixing desks. This time, a new excavation master appears on the FM source! This sound source includes an opening and ending that could not be heard with previously known items, and has the longest recording time ever for an FM source. “Supertzar” and the opening narration that pops out first when you play the disc are 30 seconds long, which was previously unknown. The calm tone of the narration is very impressive and accurately conveys the details of the live performance (from the content, you can also understand that the live radio broadcast was in 1981). Although it has no direct relation to the performance, it will surprise enthusiasts and ask, “Did such a scene even exist?” The sound quality is also clear and stable, comparable to the take recorded in “DEMONIZATION”, which is considered by fans to be the “best broadcast master”. Noise has been removed as much as possible through remastering, allowing listeners to listen to a live performance full of entertainment with peace of mind. The broadcast source that can be heard in this work is characterized by the musical sound that is clearly mixed with Jeff Nichols’ keyboard. Jeff’s play, which was not noticeable in the sound board sound source or audience recording, is here separated into the left and right channels along with Iommi’s guitar, and includes “Neon Knights”, “N.I.B.” and “Children Of The Sea”. Enjoy the band ensemble that can only be heard here (I feel a difference in localization compared to the take of “DEMONAZATION”, perhaps due to reception conditions). This is the fun that is unique to radio broadcasting, and it can be said to have a great personality that cannot be experienced even in the newly released “DARK KNIGHT” or the audience recording masterpiece “EVIL MAN”. Of particular interest are Ozzy’s “Sweet Leaf” and “Iron Man.” While listening to Iommi’s heavy guitar on the left channel, everyone can’t help but listen to the unique tone of the keyboard in unison on the right channel. Of course, you can hear Geezer’s bass and Vinny’s drums with a solid presence, and “Lady Evil” with its impressive powerful rhythm also explodes with an attractive sound! “Black Sabbath”, which is a highlight of the live show, and “Heaven And Hell”, where Iommi disappears, will be more interesting and enjoyable when compared to the soundboard sound source of “DARK KNIGHT”. Although it is an incomplete version with “War Pigs” not included due to broadcasting circumstances, the recording time of exactly 60 minutes including narration is the longest recording time ever. For enthusiasts who already own “DEMONIZATION”, this is a must-have to check out the difference! Following the peak audience recording “EVIL MAN” and the newly discovered soundboard’s “DARK KNIGHT”, a new master of FM source has been released that fully enjoys SABBATH’s November 18, 1980 from a new angle!
