Description
Newly unearthed super important studio recordings of the veteran BLACK SABBATH! This is the first of a shocking two-part series. It is a collection of studio outtakes from 1969, when the Sabbath legend began. When talking about early BLACK SABBATH outtakes, the deluxe edition bonus disc comes to mind. Indeed, official bootleg copies have been circulating in the past, but this two-part series is on a completely different level. It is the original master of the official bonus sound source, and is also an unedited super-expanded version. In particular, this work contains a total of 62 takes, about 2 hours and 13 minutes, of studio recordings recorded in 1969 before their debut. The contents are roughly divided into three parts, so let’s first review their activity history at that time and check their position in each part. 1968 August 18: Polka Tulk Blues Band formed (6-piece group) 1 September: Name changed to Earth (changed to 4-piece group) 1969 August 1: New song “Black Sabbath” premiered *August 22: “The Rebel” sessions ←★DISC 1★ 1969 August 30: Name changed to BLACK SABBATH 7 October: “When I Came Down” sessions *November 10: “Evil Woman” sessions ←★DISC 1★ 1970 January 9: Single “Evil February 13: Release of the album “Black Sabbath” DISC 1: THE REBEL/EVIL WOMAN Sessions ★The Rebel Sessions Complete Edition (19 takes) The above omits live performances and lists only the topics of milestones. Thus, DISC 1 of this work contains two studio recordings at “Trident Studios”. The first is the “The Rebel” session held on August 22, 1969. At that time, they were still called EARTH, and this was their first studio session. Jim Simpson, the first manager of BLACK SABBATH (EARTH), set up the studio recording, but the first song they chose was not an original song, but “The Rebel,” written by Norman Haynes, who was in LOCOMOTIVE with Jim. Officially, “The Rebel” was only used for a few seconds in the history video. Even the bootlegs only had one or two takes, but what was unearthed this time was a complete version of the session, totaling 19 takes and about 28 minutes. Their early demos are described in detail in Martin Popoff’s famous book “BLACK SABBATH FAQ,” which says that the demos/outtakes unearthed for the official deluxe editions of “BLACK SABBATH,” “PARANOID,” and “MASTER OF REALITY” were originally eight CDs. This time, a part of those eight CDs was leaked. This work’s “The Rebel Sessions” is the first volume of them. Moreover, this leak is also an illusion. It was released on a certain major video site, but the official side immediately complained. It was easily deleted in about a day. It was later reprinted and released somewhere, but this work was made into a CD from the best master released initially. And the content is one of the biggest shocks in the history of SABBATH archives. The sense of breath in the first session is historic, but above all, “The Rebel” itself is an unreleased song that is not even on the official Dela Eddie. You can listen to 19 takes of it in full official quality. Of course, there are many fragments such as redoes, but you can listen to 8 complete takes (Take 1/3/5/6/8/14/18/19). ★ EVIL WOMAN Session Complete Edition (17 takes + 2) Next up is the recording on “November 10, 1969” at the same “Trident Studios”. This is a session for the debut single “Evil Woman”. In addition to the 13 takes, 17 takes of “Take 13 with Extra Drums” with three parts (Fragment 1/2/3) and drum overdubs are included. This was also unearthed for the official Dela Eddie (Volume 2) like “THE REBEL Session”, and this is the complete version of the session. The only ones with vocals are the final “Take 13” and “Take 13 with Extra Drums”, and the official take is the same as the former. However, even though the performance is the same, this work is the original master. The official version was polished by editing and mastering before and after, but this work remains as raw as the other takes. After the two complete sessions, the single “Evil Woman” was also added. Although this is not an official leaked master, it was released through the same route as the two sessions above. It is the mono mix version included on the original Fontana 7-inch single “TF 1067”. DISC 2: “Black Sabbath” album session ★ “Black Sabbath” session (22 takes) Instead, DISC 2 contains the great “Black Sabbath” session held at “Regent Studios”. There are also takes that were adopted by the official Dela Eddie, but like the above “The Rebel / Evil Woman session”, this work is the original. Not only can you listen to a huge number of different takes, but the same take is also recorded with unprocessed sound. It is legendary that “Black Sabbath” was produced in only two days, but the first half of this DISC 2 was recorded on the first day, “November 17th”. A total of eight takes of three songs, “Black Sabbath”, “Behind the Wall of Sleep” and “N.I.B.” are recorded. Like DSIC 1, this is the third volume of the eight official Dela Eddie CDs, but “The Wizard (Take 1)”, which was on the original, was not released (one theory is that The Wizard (Take 1) was omitted because it was the same take as the official one). And the second half is “Sleeping Village” and “Warning”, recorded the following day, “November 18th”. These two songs seem to have been recorded in separate parts, and several takes were left for each section. These are the same excavation masters (volume 3), but this work also includes “Sleeping Village (Alt. Take)” and “Warning (Alt. Take)”. Although these two takes were not for Dela Eddie, they were released through the same route, and they seem to be temporary mixes rather than separate performances. ★Bonus Tracks: Two Mysterious Takes At the end of this shocking work, two bonus sound sources that bring more mysteries to the table are also included. One is “Warning (Extra Solo Tape Edit)”. It is not included in the master excavated for Dela Eddie that we have introduced many times, but it is probably a trial edit to utilize the newly excavated “Warning (Middle Section Remake)”. The performance itself is the same as “Warning (Middle Section Remake)”, so it is included as a bonus track. And the biggest mystery is “‘Track 10’ (Unknown fragment)”. It is an unidentified take sung by someone who is clearly not Ozzy, but this was also recorded on the “November 17th” session tape (volume 3) of “Black Sabbath”. There is also a description in Martin Popoff’s “BLACK SABBATH FAQ” introduced at the beginning, so I will extract it with my own translation. “It’s a 2 minute 45 second jazzy song with harmonica and psychedelic vocals that are not Ozzy’s. (Omitted) It’s an unknown song where the band is clearly playing but Ozzy doesn’t sing, and the sound quality is first rate here too (Martin Popoff).” “Track 10” on this album is exactly as described. It is possible that after further verification by researchers, it will turn out that it was not actually SABBATH, but we cannot rule out the possibility of a historic discovery of a huge magnitude. In this work, we place importance on the truth of the first excavation, and this mysterious take has also been permanently preserved. This is a collection of studio treasures spanning 62 takes and about 2 hours and 13 minutes. Just knowing that it is a completely official quality sound source is enough to make your head spin, but it is also shocking that the unreleased song “The Rebel” was unearthed in its entirety in a session. Above all, the fact that the debut album, which was said to be “a one-take recording that is no different from a live album,” was surprisingly well-crafted, is too surprising. An absolutely ridiculous sound source has been produced. A studio recording collection filled with the complete form of the unreleased song “The Rebel” session and outtakes from the debut album “BLACK SABBATH”. The original master of the leaked official deluxe edition, completely official quality. It is a super cultural heritage studio album that spans a total of 62 takes and about 2 hours and 13 minutes, far exceeding the official version.
