Description

The legendary master Dan Lampinski passed away. The first public release in memory of him was the masterpiece master of the “Bloody Sabbath” era. It was decided to release it urgently on 2CD with the shocking sound that shocked the whole world. This work is engraved with the “February 21, 1974 Providence performance”. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. Speaking of the “Bloody Sabbath” era, the press masterpiece “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974: REEL TO REEL SOUNDBOARD (Zodiac 595)” reigns as a symbol, but this work can be said to transcend even that great masterpiece. In order to explain the meaning, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the show’s position in the activity overview at that time. 1973, August 2nd: Appearance at LONDON MUSIC FESTIVAL {December 1st: Release of “Bloody Sabbath”} ・December 9th-19th: UK #1 (4 shows) 1974, January 11th-19th: Europe (8 shows) ・January 31st-February 25th: North America (22 shows) ←★Here★ {About 1 month off} ・April 6th: “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974” {About 1 month off} ・May 17th-June 9th: UK #2 (14 shows) {About 5 months off} ・November 5th-16th: Australia (8 shows) This is the “Bloody Sabbath” era. At first glance, it seems like a long period, but in fact the main tour was until “North America” in February 1974. After that, there were one-off stages and mini-tours with a period in between. The Providence performance of this work was the 18th concert of the main leg “North America”. This work, which conveys such a show, is undoubtedly the best live album of the “Bloody Sabbath” era. Why is this work the pinnacle? There are three main points. Point 1: The legendary 1st Gene cassette that surpassed the sound board This show is also known for having had a Lampinski recording from before, but this work is a (significant) upgrade version. The master passed away on February 14th of this year, and this work is the 1st Gene tape released as a memorial to him. The sound is “super” superb! It is completely different from the conventional master, but that’s not the point. It even transcends the shocking “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974: REEL TO REEL SOUNDBOARD”! The thick core, the direct feeling of zero distance, the fine details… everything is comparable to the soundboard “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974”, and on top of that it is natural and beautiful. “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974” was recorded right in front of the on-site PA, so the synchronization unique to the soundboard was intense, but on the other hand the mix was biased towards drums and guitars, and the peaks of the sounds were too powerful and the sound was too loud. In contrast, this work captures the sounds of the four people in a well-balanced way, and the ensemble is full of balanced beauty. The “Bloody Sabbath” tour was also a time of depopulation of sound that was not blessed with recordings, and there are no other recordings that exceed the soundboard other than this work. It is truly a masterpiece sound. Point 2: Sabbath’s first full set that lasts over 90 minutes. The quality of the sound board is beyond that of the original sound board, and it is a full show that has an important meaning in the history of BLACK SABBATH. That is, it was the first time that it exceeded 90 minutes. As you may know, the early BLACK SABBATH shows are generally short. There may have been long stages, but the longest recordings up to 1973 were about 76 minutes long. It was long enough to fit on one CD. In contrast, this work is a two-disc set that lasts about 93 minutes. Long recordings have been possible for a long time, even without other bands, and BLACK SABBATH was a big success at the time without even having to release chart data. It is not clear why they have not done long shows, but it is also true that they started to perform full sets in 1974. This work is the oldest long full show and a turning point in Sabbath history. Point 3: Unique mastering that updates the longest in history This work is also the longest update of such a full show. This 1st generation itself was the longest in history, but in fact there were cut points different from the conventional master. This work complements such parts with the conventional master. It is the longest update live album only for this work, which even exceeds the original sound on the net. Moreover, that part is important. The cheers between songs and after the end of the performance are also compensated for, but the performance parts are also complemented. “Jam / Guitar Solo # 1” is about 55 seconds, the jam number “Sometimes I’m Happy” is about 2 seconds, and “Embryo” is about 5 seconds longer. You can enjoy the historic full show without missing out on the maximum. Point 4: A great performance that is completely different from the sloppy Karijam Of course, it is meaningless to be long and lazy, but this work is rather the opposite. It is a great performance that seems to be overflowing with too dense performance and becoming long. Its awesomeness is (again) not comparable to “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974”. In the first place (as you can see from the schedule above), Cali Jam was not a part of the tour, but a special stage that was suddenly decided to appear after the tour ended. It was a show that was transported to the site by helicopter without time to rehearse and was performed without any preparation. Even in “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974”, the performance was messy and tattered, as if to prove the circumstances. In that respect, the Providence performance of this work is a part of the main tour, and the ensemble is also a show at the end of the show. Cali Jam is a complete band, from the crisp and precise timing to the natural breathing of the four members as if they were chatting. At first, I thought I would introduce it as “You can also enjoy Black Sabbath that you can’t hear in Cali Jam…”, but that’s not the point. It’s BLACK SABBATH in top form with all the songs burning. If you are an avid collector, you may think, “The 1974 Lampinski recording sounds bad, doesn’t it?” However, this work is completely different class. I tried comparing it while thinking that it might actually be a different recording, but while it is definitely the same performance, the sound is so different that I can’t tell if the recording is the same or different. It is a masterpiece that exceeds the soundboard. Until now, the “Bloody Sabbath” era was at the level of “only Cal Jam was decent”. A shocking full live album that greatly surpasses its longest / highest peak. A superb audience recording of the “Providence performance on February 21, 1974”. It is a 1st gene master that is different from the conventional master that was not so good, and the sound is wonderful even beyond the masterpiece “DEFINITIVE CALIFORNIA JAM 1974: REEL TO REEL SOUNDBOARD”. It is also the oldest Sabbath recording over 90 minutes, and our unique complement has realized the longest in history. The performance is also incomparable to Cari Jam, and it is an absolute masterpiece of the “Bloody Sabbath” era.
