Description

PARANOID is the biggest hit of the heavyweight BLACK SABBATH and a timeless masterpiece. An official version of this work has been decided to be released. The true identity of this work is the quadrophonic mix of PARANOID. This official album allows you to enjoy it in a stereo environment, and includes a bonus recording of the finest soundboard recording from an appearance on BBC RADIO ONE’s famous program “JOHN PEEL’S SUNDAY SHOW”. Both are officially digitized with the ultimate quality, but are now out of print. Let’s take a closer look at each one. [Main: PARANOID quadrophonic] The main part of this work is the 4ch mix of the masterpiece. In the 70s, 4ch quadrophonic versions were sometimes produced for rock works, and BLACK SABBATH also released a 4ch version of PARANOID in the United States in 1974. At the time, it was released in three versions: 8-track cassette, LP, and reel album, but it was digitized in 2009. The 3-disc deluxe edition came with a DVD that reproduced the quadrophonic in a 5.1ch environment. However, this was only a DVD and could not be played without a 5.1ch environment. However, in 2016, a 4-disc super deluxe edition of “PARANOID” was released. It came with a CD that allowed you to enjoy the quadrophonic mix in a stereo environment. However, this 4-disc set quickly sold out and was discontinued. It is now traded at a premium price even as a used copy. This work is a stereo version of the official quadrophonic mix. This work is of course of official quality, and you can enjoy the masterpiece “PARANOID” with its different mixes. The difference is striking. It is completely different from the first song, “War Pigs”. For example, the drums take a rhythm in the intro, but it goes around and around in your head, and sirens fly from left and right. In the next song, “Paranoid,” riffs attack one after the other, alternating from the left and right. And these are just examples. There are subtle differences and effects throughout the album, and it would be endless to list them all. This is just the coolest thing ever. The psychedelic sense of space and the sense of illusion are emphasized, and the tripping sensation is heightened. Once you listen to this album, the regular version feels flat and unsatisfying. Furthermore, the balance of each instrument is different. The most noticeable is the bass. The regular version emphasizes Geezer Butler’s attack sound, but the Quadrophonic version focuses more on the groove. Therefore, although the gritty feeling is not as strong as the regular version, the “swell” is more vivid in this version. This is a matter of personal preference, so it is difficult to simply say which is better, but it is certain that the expression you hear is completely different. That historic masterpiece sounds completely fresh without compromising its quality (I wish they had produced quadrophonic versions of other 70’s albums as well…). [Bonus: JOHN PEEL’S SUNDAY SHOW] The main part alone is enough, but this album also includes a delicious bonus track. This is a studio live performance from the BBC’s famous program “JOHN PEEL’S SUNDAY SHOW” broadcast on April 26, 1970. This take has also been officially digitized. This is the official CD take titled “BASEMENT TAPES” from Ozzy’s best album “THE OZZMAN COMETH” released in 1997. There was no further explanation on the official CD, but it was actually “JOHN PEEL’S SUNDAY SHOW”. This is a best album that is still in circulation, but it only contains “Black Sabbath” and the original War Pigs song “Walpurgis”, but the first edition of “THE OZZMAN COMETH” is different from the original edition and includes two bonus discs. In addition, “Fairies Wear Boots” and “Behind The Wall Of Sleep” were also included. This work includes all four songs that are the complete version of the session, while correcting the original song order. The content is also excellent. “Walpurgis” is delicious, but “Black Sabbath” is even more impressive. Even though the debut work was released at the time, the early temporary lyrics. Moreover, it is a long version that is more than three minutes longer than the album version, reaching nearly 10 minutes. Of course, “Fairies Wear Boots” and “Behind The Wall Of Sleep” also have the vividness of a studio live performance that is different from the album, and the revolutionary BLACK SABBATH of 1970 is realistically depicted. It’s a must-listen take that rivals the great masterpieces “BLACK SABBATH” and “PARANOID”. A different mix of a historic masterpiece, and a superb studio live. These are treasures that have been officially digitized but are now out of print. It’s such a pity that these superb tracks, rare even in British rock, are sleeping in secret.
