Description

1970 was the year BLACK SABBATH took flight around the world. The treasure reel master is here. This work contains the “Portland performance on November 7, 1970”. It is a superb audience recording that lets you experience the scene. Speaking of 1970, it was a revolutionary year when the historic masterpieces “BLACK SABBATH” and “PARANOID” were released and “MASTER OF REALITY” was also produced. Of these, this work is a part of the “PARANOID TOUR”. First of all, let’s imagine the position of the show from Sabbath’s first world tour. [1970] “PARANOID (UK)” released on September 18th. September 11th – October 26th: Europe #1 (25 shows), October 30th – November 28th: North America #1 (30 shows) ←★Here★, November 29th – December 20th: Europe #2 (8 shows) [1971] “PARANOID (US)” released on January 1st. January 7th – 23rd: Europe #3 (11 shows), January 31st: Appearance at MYPONGA POP FESTIVAL. February 5th: Production of “MASTER OF REALITY” begins. February 6th – April 4th: Netherlands + North America #2 (39 shows), April 14th – 26th: Europe #4 (11 shows). This is the outline of the “PARANOID TOUR”. After “VOL.4”, the rotation of “album production → tour” was in place, but at this time, the schedule was busy with making albums incessantly even during the tour. Among them, “North America #1” was also Sabbath’s first US tour, and the Portland performance of this work was the fifth concert. This work, full of such freshness, is an extremely wonderful vintage audience. In 1970, there were very few audience recordings, as it was not long after their debut. Moreover, most of them are of strict quality. However, this work is an exception that is too precious. It has been digitized directly from the master reel excavated in recent years, and its freshness is ultimate. There is a slight sense of space, so you won’t get the wrong sound board, but the performance sound that reaches you straight is extremely neat and clear everywhere. The thick core is strong, and the thick sound without any dubbing marks is beautiful. And above all, it is glossy. Although it has an amber-colored sound unique to vintage, its gloss flows out abundantly without being tainted by noise. Moreover, there is nothing to interfere with the performance or singing. Perhaps because it was the fifth performance since landing on the American continent, it has not yet become popular enough to create a frenzy, and the audience noise is hardly noticeable. You can enjoy the band’s potential that created the masterpiece “PARANOID” in every detail. Since the master reel is truly a miracle, maniacs around the world were surprised and delighted by its discovery. It was praised as a masterpiece on par with “ETERNAL VOID OF DOOM: THE LEGENDARY MASTER”, which was the best audience of the “PARANOID TOUR” so far. However, even though it was miraculous, it was not perfect. There was a tape change in “War Pigs” and “Fairies Wear Boots”, and the overall volume was unstable. Even more fatal was the last “Fairies Wear Boots”. The glossiness up to that point was lost, and there was a stuttering noise (on the other hand, the basic quality is so high that it is called “best” even if it has flaws). Therefore, this work brushes up the miracle reel sound with meticulous mastering. Of course, there is no unrefined imitation that would spoil the beautiful vintage sound, and accurate pitch is a matter of course. On top of that, the unstable volume was corrected as much as possible (within a range that does not sound unnatural), and the stuttering noise of “Fairies Wear Boots” was thoroughly corrected. Although it is difficult to do anything about the missing tape change, it is a live album that you can immerse yourself in the precious scent of 1970 for about 46 minutes to your heart’s content. The splendor of the show depicted by that sound is speechless. As mentioned above, this “North America # 1” is their first American tour. Overwhelmed by the culture of the new continent that they are experiencing for the first time, 21-year-old Ozzy Osbourne barks and 22-year-old Iommi roars revolutionary heavy riffs. Their youthful momentum is doubled by drugs, but it does not collapse, and spins tremendous chaos. Their US tour became a rumor after the first few performances, and it spread all over the US, and by the end of the tour, it had become extremely popular. This work is the scene that caused such “rumors”. It is a document of 1970, where the breath of the audience, overwhelmed by the heavy sound of all time, is also realistic. In any case, it is a masterpiece of the superb vintage sound of 1970. It is a masterpiece of a live album that polishes the super-famous recording that was called the tour best despite its flaws and raises it to the highest quality in history. Until now, the only high-quality recording in 1970 was the sound board, and it was not possible to experience 100% of the actual live performance. However, this work puts an end to that frustration. It is a sound comparable to the Brussels performance (formerly called Paris 70), but it also has a tremendous sense of presence. It is nothing other than the “historical heritage of British rock”.
