Description
The Glenn Hughes era is the deepest unexplored region in BLACK SABBATH’s live history. A gorgeous 6-disc set that will complete your collection. Contained in this work are all four types of audience recordings. This is a set of the tour rehearsal “March 14, 1986 in West Hollywood” and Glenn’s last three consecutive performances “March 24 in East Rutherford”, “March 25 in Providence”, and “March 26 in Worcester”. In the first place, there were only 5 performances of Sabbath during the Glenn era, and their pinnacle work “DEFINITIVE CLEVELAND 1986 FIRST GIG WITH GLENN” also appeared. First, let’s organize the dates to see how each title is related. [“SEVENTH STAR” released on January 28th]・March 14th: Rehearsal ←★Disc 1★《March 17th: Glenn fights with his manager》・March 21st: “DEFINITIVE CLEVELAND 1986 FIRST GIG WITH GLENN” ・March 22: DVD “GLENN’S 2ND GIG”《Notice of dismissal to Glenn》 ・March 24: East Rutherford performance ←★Disc 2-3★・March 25: Providence performance ←★This work DISC 4-5★・March 26th: Worcester performance ←★This work DISC 6★《Glenn Hughes fired》》This is the whole picture of “Glenn era Sabbath” that disappeared in a bubble. The first day of the tour was permanently preserved as the iconic record “DEFINITIVE CLEVELAND 1986”, and the only video “GLENN’S 2ND GIG” was sold. Then, all that remains is the second half of the performance and rehearsal. This work is a 6-disc set that brings them all together. [DISC 1: Masterpiece Rehearsal Album] The first thing that appears is the final rehearsal recording of “March 14th West Hollywood”. It is a famous sound source that once symbolized the Glenn era Sabbath as the masterpiece “TURN TO GLENN”. It’s not a concert with an audience in it (perhaps the conversational voices during the song are from the staff?), so it’s a record with a very different atmosphere from the other records. And not only the mood but also the quality is on a different level. Perhaps because he was in an environment where he could freely choose his position, there was little sense of distance (although it wasn’t a line). The extremely thick core is very close, and the mid-bass, which tends to be sparse, has a great response. The harsh sound of the bass is so strong and direct that it makes you think it’s a sound board. And the content is great as well as the sound. The rehearsal, which was a 46-minute run-through from “Supertzar,” which announced the start of the show, was just like the actual performance, and the tone of the voices was very good. As you can see from the schedule above, Glenn got into a physical fight with his manager three days after rehearsal, which resulted in a fractured eye socket floor. This caused me to lose my voice. This disc was from before that injury. A valuable record of singing Sabbath songs with her original beautiful voice. In fact, he is doing well in the “SEVENTH STAR” repertoire, and the songs from his Ozzy era also have a different personality from Ronnie and Ian Gillan. However, the better the performance, the more noticeable the mismatch becomes with songs from the Ronnie era. Even if you can overcome the power-driven “The Mob Rules” with shouts, the lyrical “Children Of The Sea”, the high-pitched “Neon Knights”, and the profound “Heaven And Hell” are hopeless. For many years, it has been said that this disastrous situation was “because it was the lowest point in my career,” but more than that, it seems that his range/style was too different from Ronnie. [DISC 2-3/4-5/6: Glenn’s last 3 consecutive performances] The following 5 discs have a slight gap, and are set with audience recordings of 3 performances after Glenn’s dismissal was decided. As expected, it does not reach the standards of the rehearsal sound source of DISC 1 and the pinnacle work “DEFINITIVE CLEVELAND 1986″, but it is a well-known recording that is more than clear when compared to the guest record standards of the time. In particular, the Worcester recording (DISC 6) on the final day has plenty of response in the midrange, and the deep bass is also wonderful. However, performance is honestly tough. Even during rehearsals, it became clear that he didn’t fit well with the Sabbath songs, but by this time, his voice was hoarse due to a fractured orbital floor, and he was also told that he would be fired, which made him desperate. It leaves behind an outrageous vocal that is probably the worst in Glenn’s life. However, it is now both valuable and interesting. “Children Of The Grave” has a tremendous scream, “Black Sabbath (The Demon King’s Loud Laughter is Scary)” is even more bizarre than Ian Gillan, “Children Of The Sea” is a true madman with a desperate meter, etc. As a person with a great natural voice, he is able to portray a different dimension in which even if his voice is broken, it is not too bad. Three performances + rehearsals that are not as good as “DEFINITIVE CLEVELAND 1986″ in terms of number of songs, quality, and performance. To put it bluntly, it’s for enthusiasts, but it’s also a 6-disc set that will shock enthusiasts. In the first place, people tend to think that “enthusiasts” are people who value everything, but that is not the case. A maniac is someone who can discern true value. This is someone who can see through the essence and feel the charm even if there is no superficial charm that can be seen or heard at a glance. This work is “for enthusiasts” in the true sense of the word. It is a super valuable work that allows you to literally experience the unprecedented “Crazy Glen” with on-site sound.
