Description

Two previously unknown 1971 California treasured masters are discovered at the same time! What was discovered this time are two original cassettes by California recording artist Robert Rich. This work is a powerful audience recording of the first of these, “February 23, 1971 Inglewood Performance”. The two works that will be released simultaneously this week are both “1971”, but the timing is about 7 months apart, and this work is one act of the “PARANOID Tour”. Speaking of the representative works of this period, there is also a professional shot of the Brussels performance (video formerly known as “Paris 70”), so let’s check it out from the schedule at that time. 1970 “PARANOID Tour” ・September 11-15: Europe #1a (4 performances) [“Paranoid” released on September 18] ・September 20-October 26: Europe #1b (21 performances) ←※BRUSSELS 1970, October 30th – November 28th: North America #1 (31 performances), December 5th – 19th: Europe #2 (6 performances) ●1971, January 7th – 23rd: Europe #3 (11 performances) ・January 31st: Appearance at MYPONGA OPEN AIR [Production of “Master of Reality” starts on February 5th] ・February 17th – April 2nd: North America #2 (40 performances) ←★Coco★《“Master of Reality” completed on April 5th》・April 14th-26th: Europe #4 (10 performances) This is the whole picture of “PARANOID Tour”. At this time, Sabbath’s year and tour boundaries did not match, with the “BLACK SABBATH Tour” in the first half of 1970 and the “MASTER OF REALITY Tour” in the second half of 1971. Here, only “PARANOID Tour” is extracted. “North America #1” was Sabbath’s first North American tour, but this is the second Inglewood performance of this work. This was the 9th concert of “North America #2”. It is also known that Sabbath’s first three albums were produced at the same time as their tour activities, but this work’s “North America #2” is the production period of “MASTER OF REALITY”. However, he did not go back and forth between the studio and the stage; the album was produced at “Island Studio” in London, and the tour was in North America. Although the detailed daily activity history is not known, it seems that the recording was done for “about 10 days in early February” and finished in “early April after returning to Japan.” In any case, the Sabbath carved into this work was the band potential that created the masterpiece “MASTER OF REALITY”, and the sound that conveys that is also super powerful. This show also includes the previously released “L.A. FORUM 1971 (Shades 113),” but this work is a completely different recording. The sound is incomparable, and what’s amazing about it is that it’s intensely on and has a direct feel. This is really powerful and you can’t even feel the distance. If you run an acoustic analysis, you might be able to detect hall noise, but it’s not at a level that you would notice when listening. That is the super thick sound that is “like a sound board”. On the other hand, because it is too powerful, the bass sound tends to be a bit cracked. In that respect, it takes some getting used to, and it cannot be advertised as “suitable for everyone” or “superlative.” However, once you get used to it, you will notice that the details are recorded in great detail. The picking nuances are clearly carved into the harsh edges of the guitar, and the drums are so three-dimensional that you can almost see the structure of the kit. And above all, the vocals. While the overall sound has a sense of brutality, Ozzy’s singing voice is glossy and super beautiful. If I had to visually compare this contrast, it would be like pearls wrapped around rough sandpaper. Shining melodies are interspersed with a dangerous rock sound that will hurt you if you touch it. Moreover, this work further brushes up the first appearance sound source. The pitch that was out of whack has been straightened out, and the heavy bass that was too intense in the online sound source has also been sorted out. Of course, the realism of the original sound is not compromised in the slightest, making it even easier to listen to, and reproducing the 1971 scene as faithfully as possible. What is drawn with such a contrast sound is a full show that is like a concentrated reduction of the initial two albums “BLACK SABBATH” and “PARANOID” with the band potential of “MASTER OF REALITY”. Let’s organize the contents of the set here. Black Sabbath (3 songs) ・N.I.B./Black Sabbath/Wicked World (★) Paranoid (4 songs) ・Paranoid/War Pigs/Iron Man/Fairies Wear Boots *Note: “★” marks can also be heard in the final video “BRUSSELS 1970” No songs. …and it looks like this. Although they are not playing particularly rare songs, the set is spectacular, lined with super representative songs that are synonymous with Sabbath even 50 years later. Although it is not as diverse as “BRUSSELS 1970” which was for the TV program, the live feeling of the 12-minute jam number “Wicked World” is also irresistible. And, this work is a must-listen until after the full show ends. Robert Rich himself, who noticed that there was a surplus of tapes, recorded his impressions of the concert. Apparently, his friends were with him as well, and their voices rose with excitement as they talked about how amazing the show was, and there was a hint of ecstasy in their voices as they chanted the band’s name. I have been working on various 70’s recordings, not just Sabbath, but I have never seen such a realistic record. What kind of experience is it to be exposed to a historical show in real time, it beautifully conveys the impression/emotion. This is a newly discovered live album with an incredibly powerful sound. This is a super realistic album that not only allows you to experience the precious “PARANOID Tour” on-site, but also lets you experience the actual excitement that runs through your entire body. Powerful audience recording of “February 23, 1971 Inglewood Performance”. This is a masterpiece digitized from the original cassette recorded by Robert Rich himself, and the sound is extremely powerful. The core is intensely active and direct, and it’s powerful, and you can’t really feel the distance. It takes some getting used to the wild sound, but the picking nuances are clearly carved into the guitar’s fierce edge, and Ozzy’s singing voice is glossy and super beautiful. This is an amazing new excavation live album that allows you to fully experience the climax of BLACK SABBATH right before your eyes.
