Description

A 2-CD set that allows you to enjoy the “most underrated talented era” in the long history of SABBATH with the best sound ever! This work was recorded at the Nagoya performance on November 21, 1995, which was the second performance in Japan. This is a superb live album made from the original DAT master, which was provided by the recorder himself and is the first to appear! “The most underrated talented”… That is the lineup that was born only in the latter half of the “FORBIDDEN” tour. In addition to Iommi, Martin, and Murray, Bobby Rondinelli sat at the kit in place of Cozy Powell, who suddenly left the band. Since all of them were “recalled”, there was nothing new about them, and they hardly paid any attention to them. However, the talented members who were called back because they were skilled were lined up, and they have an excellent understanding of the songs. Some people may think, “What, it’s not Cozy?” Why did they decide to press Rondinelli, who is certainly less popular? It’s because the live performance and super sound are so fulfilling that you can’t help but do so! 1995 has already been almost 20 years. Let’s take a look back at that time. The album “FORBIDDEN” released at that time had the big topic of Cozy Powell and Neil Murray returning to the band, but Cozy left the band in the middle of the tour. After the tour, the band broke up, and BLACK SABBATH was caught up in the historical swell of the reunion of the original lineup. However, no matter how much time passes, the charm of the stylized sound built during the Tony Martin era has not faded in the slightest! Now that Ozzy SABBATH is about to reach a turning point in 2014, I would like all enthusiasts to take another look at the Martin era. This time, the best recording suitable for that has been unearthed with the highest sound quality audience source! This work is a complete recording from the original DAT master, which is completely unknown even among traders. All the musical sounds played on stage are brought back to life with a neat sound image, superb stability, and lively sound. This is the ideal piece to know “Martin Sabbath’s last tour” that came 19 years ago! When the disc is played, the opening intro “Ave Satani” and “The Gates Of Hell”, which represent the Martin era, ring out, solemnly announcing the start of the live show. This recording is recorded from this opening S.E. with clarity and outstanding stability like a line sound source. This neat sound shows its true potential even more after the performance starts with “Children Of The Grave”. The cheers of the audience are captured within the range necessary to create a sense of realism, and only the excitement is produced stress-free. In addition, while dynamically depicting Martin’s singing and Iommi’s guitar, the drums and bass are also thick and stand out. Neil Murray’s bass is the best of them all! In this “FORBIDDEN” tour, Neil’s bass was featured heavily in every live performance. But has there ever been an audience recording where you can hear his playing so in detail and with such full force? The richness of the bass notes in “Neon Knights” and “The Shining” is already tear-jerking. The latter in particular is a great listening point in the first half of the live performance, with Iommi’s solo and Martin’s singing being excellent (the only comparable Sabbath recording from 1995 is the classic soundboard “BLOODY WIZARD”! Martin at this time is often criticized for his “weakened voice.” His piercing high tones have certainly disappeared, but this 1995 tour has a “taste” and “persuasiveness” that was not felt around 1987 or 1989. The bluesy singing and rich expression of “The Wizard”, “Kiss Of Death”, “Rusty Angels” and “Can’t Get Close Enough” give a sense of their own individuality, different from that of their great predecessors such as Ozzy and Ronnie. The combination of Martin’s singing and Neil’s masterful bass, which can be heard in these songs, is very tasteful. The best example of this is “When Death Calls” from this recording! This lustre, like tarnished silver, is the very charm of deep British rock! In the second half, “Black Sabbath” and “Heaven And Hell” are played in succession for a total of about 15 minutes, bringing the excitement in the venue to a peak. At the end, a medley of “Iron Man” and “Paranoid” beautifully closes the live performance, which was filled with excitement! It is a pity that we cannot hear “Changes”, which was included in the set at the Tokyo performance just before (November 19th), as both the performance and the recording can be said to be one of the best in 1995. Compared to the Ozzy era, which gave birth to doom and heaviness, and the Ronnie era, which overwhelmed others with its noble and magnificent sound world, the Martin era may be modest in terms of both duration and musical achievements. However, the world view created by melodic songs and a mysterious and unique mood is also a unique Sabbath sound. In particular, the latter half of the Martin era was filled with a kind of blues feeling, establishing a personality that sets it apart from other eras. And it can be said that this ’95 live performance was the era in which you can best enjoy its charm. Please enjoy the charm of Sabbath, who seem to be self-reliant yet change their expression depending on the vocalist, with this work. This is a must-have item that cannot be overlooked not only for Sabbath enthusiasts, but also for fans who love melodic rock. This is a must-listen-to release that realistically depicts the turning point in Sabbath history!
