Miles Davis started his legend in the mid-1950s, when he formed his first group, an original quintet, and finally rose to the leading role in the jazz scene, with a performance in Paris on November 2, 1956. Lester Young, Bud Powell, and MJQ, commonly known as the Birdland All Stars, led by Miles’ favorite French pianist René Hurtreger Trio, who was also featured in the recording of Miles’ first soundtrack “Gallows Elevator” the following year. All 12 songs from the legendary Birdland All Stars in Europe concert held in Hamburg on November 7th, which had never been released, have recently been sold on tape and have been circulating underground among collectors.
