Description

Billy Joel’s first visit to Japan in 16 years left the biggest impact in 2024. This is a superb set that allows you to fully experience a one-night-only full show. This work contains two superb records of one show. This is a three-disc set with a full recording of the “January 24, 2024: Tokyo Dome” performance on DISC 1-2 and a spectacular video on DISC 3. Both of these records were released in advance and were a huge hit due to their high quality. As time has passed since the concert, there have been fewer appearances, but it is unbearable to see such a great record being forgotten. Therefore, we have reprinted it under the regular title while further upgrading it. Let’s introduce the live album and the video separately. DISC 1-2: Upgraded original recording First up is the full recording that was very well received as “TOKYO DOME 2024: ONE NIGHT ONLY IN JAPAN”. There are three releases: “TOKYO DOME 2024”, “DEFINITIVE MASTER” and “ORIGINAL IN EAR MONITOR RECORDING”. This work is a different recording from all of them. Moreover, it is not just something different. The super clear sound that makes you doubt your ears, “Is this a dome recording!?” became a hot topic, but this work is an upgraded version that has been further brushed up and maximized the potential of the original recording. Although it absorbs the echo of the venue, it is not what is called “dome sound”. The air boasts a hall-class transparency, and although the melody feels like it is pouring down, each sound is clearly defined. Not only can you hear the vocals clearly down to each word of the lyrics, but you can also clearly hear the Japanese MC that is occasionally mixed in without mixing with the chorus. Of course, the instruments are also clear, and the drums are particularly shocking. Usually, dome recordings have a strong reverberation of each hit, and it is natural that the bass in particular has a thin core and spreads and the outline becomes blurred. However, in this work, even the bass drum is very crisp. Naturally, the strength of the beat is synchronized with the bass, but even with that one hit, the bass drum and the bass can be heard separated neatly. Moreover, in this work, the balance has been precisely adjusted based on the frequency band analysis, making it even clearer. The feeling of being pushed up is reduced, and the balance with the bass drum is also well-balanced. Furthermore, the piano dancing in such a situation is decisive. Even the touch is transmitted firmly, and chords and rapid hits are not muddy. Each grain remains vivid and falls like white snow. It is completely clear, away from the dome, but at the same time, it is firmly like a dome recording. It is spectacular. If you listen carefully with headphones, the sound (faint enough not to make it difficult to hear) gives the vocals luster and extension. And a big cheer. The cheers that occur for each song and the roar that rises in anticipation of the next song are incredibly wide! The joy of the music and the laughter at the Japanese MC spread sympathy far and wide. This alone is a great moving piece. DISC 3: A video with a wonderful panoramic spectacle The following video was also a big hit as “TOKYO DOME 2024: THE VIDEO”. It was shot from the ground seats looking straight ahead at the center of the stage, and the wonderful view makes my heart warm. What’s great is the camera work, which was bold and determined. There is no zooming or tracking of the highlights, and the entire stage is simply captured in a distant view. You may think, “What a distant view,” but distant views are becoming more popular in audience shots these days. It has become commonplace to install a huge screen on the stage, and the video production using the latest technology is projected on it with great force, and even when viewed from a distance, it is clear and beautiful, and can be stared at without getting bored at the same level as a multi-camera professional shot. Moreover, by putting the screen and the actual stage in the same field of view, the huge spectacle of the venue is intuitively conveyed. Of course, not all long-distance shots are amazing. There are points for long-distance shots, and the position and camera work require a special sense and know-how. First of all, the important thing is to be “as far forward as possible” and “without obstructions.” The more you lean to the left or right, the more the screen image will tilt diagonally, and the beauty of the image will not be seen well. Obstructions are out of the question. And it is desirable for the camera work to be as stable as possible. When you are on-site, you will want to look directly at the musicians and want to shoot them. It is human nature to think that “everyone in the venue can see the screen.” Then, you try to get an impossible direct angle, and in the end you chase the musicians who are like grains of rice, but you can’t capture them and the image will be bad… I’m sure many people have made such mistakes. As mentioned above, having a seat that is suitable for the screen is a blessing in itself. If you are blessed with it, it is important to give up any further desires and continue to capture the screen and the long-distance spectacle stably. I’ve lined up some general theories about distant views, but the point is that this work is a sample video that embodies such “distant view tips” brilliantly. It is a video masterpiece that allows you to experience the fun of professional shots, the on-site feeling of an audience, and the power of an unusual size all at once. Clear recording that overturns the common sense of dome recording and huge spectacular video. Both are masterpiece sets that teach the wonderfulness of modern audience recording. A three-disc set that will heal your heart that has already fallen into loss. “January 24, 2024: Tokyo Dome” performance original recording + panoramic video audience three-disc set. Both were big hits as gift titles at the time, and have been reprinted as regular titles that anyone can easily get their hands on. In particular, the original recording (DISC 1-2) has been newly polished and upgraded from the gift version, and the clear sound that you would not think of as a dome is shocking. The video edition also has a spectacular panoramic view. It is a three-disc set that will heal your heart that has fallen into loss. (Remastering memo) The feeling of the bass being pushed up has been reduced. The melody of the bass from low F to low B sounds more organized, and the balance with the bass drum is also better.
