Description

Unlike the 1981 performance in Japan where he appeared spectacularly at “GLASS HOUSES IN JAPAN”, the live sound source of Billy at the peak of his life, which was a super superb sound source but suffered from misfortune, was in Boston in 1978. Although it was released exactly 10 years ago from now, 10 years ago was a time when the afterglow of the Japan performance that had been realized for one night the previous year had cooled down, and there was no topic of conversation about Billy. However, enthusiasts were overwhelmed by the incredibly high-quality recording. The ultimate audience album from the “52ND STREET” tour has finally arrived. The eternal masterpiece album “52ND STREET” is filled with Billy’s most famous songs, but the tour that started at the end of September 1978 was surprisingly lacking in sound sources. Of course, there were a number of audience recordings circulating among traders, including December’s Madison Square Garden, but in terms of quality, they were all at B-level. The only item that recorded the October performance called “HALLOWEEN EVE NIGHT” attracted attention among enthusiasts as an item that conveyed the details of the tour, but there were mistakes in the credits, and the sound source had a lot of pitch errors and cuts. That was unfortunate. On the other hand, the “THE STRANGER” tour has wonderful TV live performances in the UK and Germany, and there is even an immortal sound source radio broadcast at Nassau Coliseum. I wonder why there is no decent sound source when it comes to the “52ND STREET” tour even though they are at the same peak…It was also shocking that it lowered the thirst of such maniacs. To that extent, the high quality of this audience recording is on another level. The sound image is more on than either of the 1981 performances in Japan that will be delivered at the same time, and the sound pressure is like “a sound board”. Of course, it is also good at clearness, and you can clearly hear Liberty DeVito’s bass drum step and even the arpeggio that Russell Javers played on “She’s Always A Woman”. Frankly speaking, there is no other audience recording with such outstanding sound from the 1978 “52ND STREET” tour. One of the few drawbacks of this sound source is the part where the taper raised and lowered the volume level at the beginning of the opening “The Stranger”. Regarding this issue, we have made a thorough adjustment for this release. I was reborn into a state where I felt no discomfort at all. The higher pitch was also adjusted in the same way. And the 1978 “52ND STREET” tour, which was documented with exceptionally high sound quality, is a series of highlights. Still, the entire set list is close to the composition of “THE STRANGER” tour, and there remains much of Billy’s repertoire before commercial success. Then, from the middle of the live performance, songs from “52ND STREET” were performed, but this did not go down well with the audience (!). Perhaps it’s because the album has just been released, but I can’t help but be surprised at their indifferent response to “My Life.” The same goes for the eternal standard “Honesty”, and it would be an unthinkable sight now for Billy to carefully introduce the song and then start. And speaking of “Big Shot”, it is common for Billy to sing while walking around the stage, but here he is singing while playing the piano from beginning to end. Anyway, the sound is good, so you can clearly hear such rare performance forms. And it must have been a disaster that the “52ND STREET” tour in 1978 was a long tour lasting more than two hours every day.Billy’s voice was a little slow in the first half of the live performance, but as the show progressed, It is only at the peak of the song that the song gets louder and louder and sings to its fullest. The best audience album from the 1978 “52ND STREET” tour, which has not yet been officially released, is finally released. This is a gem where you can enjoy to your heart’s content the original performance of Billy’s classic numbers such as “Honesty” with perfect sound quality!
