Description

“BIG TOE” and “FOAMFOOT” are the names of a one-night cover band formed in the early 90s by Chris Robinson and Mark Ford of the Black Crowes. Two precious live performances are recorded on this CD, both of which are master quality soundboard recordings. Disc 1 records a gig held on January 17th, 1993, at the Troubadour club in Hollywood, under the name “BIG TOE”. The members are the main band of Chris and Mark, Steve Gorman, and Jimmy Hushurst and Charlie Quantana from the Ju Ju Hounds. The set is a parade of 70’s classic rock, which is their roots, and the selection of songs is also a point, starting with a Delaney & Bonnie number. Then there are numbers by Neil Young, Buffalo Springfield, Free, Leon Russell, and the deadly Dominoes number “BELL BOTTOM BLUES”. Furthermore, a medley of Leadbelly to the Stones’ “SWEET VIRGINIA” and a medley of CSN&Y to the Jayhawks’ numbers were performed in a stylish way that only they could do, and the last song was “TABACCO ROAD”, which lasted over 15 minutes. Disc 2 is a gig from 1994, this time under the name “FOAMFOOT”, also held at the Troubadour on January 8th, with Andy Sturmer on drums and Eric Beauvoir on percussion. This was their true talent, but the song selection and playing were excellent, and not a single song overlapped with the previous year, starting with “WALK IN MY SHADOW” from Free’s first album “Tons of Sobs”, “BOTTLE OF RED WINE” from Clapton’s first solo, and even “TIN SOLDIER” by the Small Faces, and other songs that show their good taste. Gary Lewis of the Jay Hawks was invited as a guest and the band played “Take the Highway” by the Marshall Tucker Band, “Deal” from G. Garcia’s solo album, which he played for many years with the Dead, “Long Time Gone” by CSN featuring David Crosby himself, “Jemima Surrender” by The Band, and “One Way Out” by Allman. The final song was “Presence of the Lord” with a strong wah effect, which was an irresistible performance. The sound quality was perfect on both days, and the 1994 special live performance was a complete official quality performance. DISC 1 : 01. Introduction 02. Things Get Better (DELANIE&BONNIE) 03.
