Description

Bernie Thome, the lone guitarist, passed away from pneumonia on March 17, 2019. Introducing the best live album that can be witnessed in his final years. This work includes “Edinburgh performance on November 25, 2018”. This is an act of “THE FINAL FLING UK TOUR” which was Bernie’s last tour. Last year saw the release of Barney’s posthumous work “SHADOWLAND”, so let’s take a look at the schedule for Barney’s final steps. ・June 8: Appearance at SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL ・August 4: Appearance at A NEW DAY FESTIVAL《“SHADOWLAND” released on November 18》《THE FINAL FLING’ UK TOUR》・November 22: Reading performance・November 23: South Shields performance・November 24: Troon performance・November 25: Edinburgh performance ←★This work★・November 27: Wolverhampton Performances ・November 28th: Milton Keynes performance ・November 30th: London performance ・December 1st: Weston-super-Mare performance This is Bernie’s 2018. It was in the news that he reunited with Ozzy for the first time in 36 years at the “SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL” in June, but since then he has continued to work at his own pace. “SHADOWLAND” was released in November, and immediately after that, “THE FINAL FLING UK TOUR” was held for 8 performances. This Edinburgh performance is the fourth performance of this work. It was Bernie’s fifth concert since his final performance. This work, which contained such a show, is an outstanding audience recording recorded with the famous machine “Schoeps mk4″. Anyway, the guitar sound is overwhelming. If the core is on, there is no sense of distance and the details are delicate. You can feel the slight nuances of the guitar and the roaring arming in your ears. Of course, it’s not just the guitar that’s exquisite. The buzzing bass vibe is so delicate that you can see the waveforms, and the drums are super realistic. Only the vocals are a little off, but it feels like the balance of the on-site PA was picked up as is, rather than the distance of the recording. The venue is a bar with a stage rather than a club, but it’s a live album that leaves you feeling suffocated by the closed room feel and handmade feel of it. The sound depicts the breadth of Barney’s career. It starts with “Wild West” by “ELECTRIC GYPSIES” and then slides into the new song “Come The Revolution.” Just when I thought I had suddenly connected old and new, GILLAN’s “No Easy Way” popped out, and then I went to “Turn Out The Lights” from his solo debut… While going back and forth between eras, he plays out repertoire from various eras, from solo to GILLAN to GUY MCCOY TORME. It’s in the second half that the show suddenly gets heated. From the time when he plays “Trouble” and “New Orleans” from the GILLAN era twice in a row. Until then, each song had been enthusiastically cheered, but from this point on, the audience (this mood is more appropriate than the audience) began to sing along, chanting “Ayyyyyyyy…” The bar gets hotter and hotter. The show ends once here, but the encore is amazing again. Two consecutive hits: Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” and BLACK SABBATH’s “Paranoid.” Bernie doesn’t have many records, so I can’t say for sure, but the aforementioned reunion with Ozzy may have been the trigger. “Mr. Crowley”, which is keyboardless but cries madly with its unique arming, is amazing. Even though the guitar is so amazing, the fact that you can’t help but burst out singing is just so perfect. A special guest from “Paranoid” also participated. We will also play “No Easy Way” again. In fact, his posthumous work “SHADOWLAND” was produced using the crowd-funding project “PLEDGE MUSIC”, and it seems that Bernie and fans performed together as a benefit of the investment. These two songs are not the best performances, but even the service suits the intimate mood. Anyway, the mood is so wonderful that you want to call out to Bernie, who gave a lively and passionate performance, “Would you like a drink?” After this, he completed five stages, but at the end of 2019, he contracted pneumonia and passed away. This work is a superb live album that is close to Bernie Thome in his later years, and you can even feel his presence nearby. This is the perfect song to remember a solitary guitarist with all his career masterpieces. Live at Bannermans, Edinburgh, Scotland 25th November 2018 TRULY PERFECT/ULTIMATE SOUND Disc 1(56:40) 1.
