Description
“THE BEATLES”, also known as the White Album, is now considered one of the Beatles’ masterpieces, along with Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road. The most famous rare sound source for this album is a demo tape made before the album was made, called Kinfauns Demo. Before recording began at Abbey Road Studios, the Beatles gathered at George’s villa named Kinfauns and recorded demos of the songs they were planning to record there. This is part of what we would now call “pre-production,” but there is no other example in which the Beatles recorded demos of new songs to this extent before starting production on an album. This was a testament to the large amount of music he had composed during his stay in India in the first half of 1968, during which time he was not training under the Maharishi. The White Album ended up being a two-disc set, but listening to this demo, I can’t help but think that the Beatles had in mind from the beginning that the album would be a two-disc set. In fact, even songs that were not included in the album were recorded at this time, so it is no exaggeration to say that this was the time when their creative ambitions reached their peak. Those songs that were not recorded saw the light of day on individual solo albums after the Beatles disbanded, and were valuable in that they could be heard on recordings from the Beatles era. Some songs from the Kinfauns demo are currently included in “ANTHOLOGY 3” and can now be easily heard not only on CD but also on music distribution. The version recorded there was recorded in stereo, and it became clear that this demo was a full-fledged recording using a 4-track recorder. There are a number of sound sources in which John Lennon and other members recorded simple demos, but this is called a home demo in which full-fledged equipment was used and all the members participated in the recording. In this respect as well, the value of the Kinfaunsu sound source is extremely high. However, the existence of this sound source became known long before “ANTHOLOGY 3”. In 1988, the Kinfauns demo became one of the featured sound sources in “THE LOST LENNON TAPES”, which released the sound source left behind by John on the radio, and was broadcast in small portions in the program, starting with the demo of “Revolution”. It’s a thing. The sound source was originally one that John had copied in monaural and owned by himself. Towards the end of the broadcast of “THE LOST LENNON TAPES,” one of the people involved in the broadcast leaked a copy of the original sound source, which became the first item to contain Kinfauns demos over the years. It became the foundation. By the way, this sound source was originally a copy owned by John, and as it was distributed after further dubbing, the hiss noise became like a chronic disease. Yellow Dog’s “UNSURPASSED DEMOS”, which was the first to release a full-length version of this sound source, was equalized to suppress the hiss, but it was still considered a masterpiece due to its wonderful content. . Furthermore, there were items such as “THE KITANUS DEMO” (original title), which was based on a tape that had been dubbed over and over again, and “KINFAUNS”, which had the songs in a messed up order. After that, Bigotone’s “FROM KINFAUNS TO CHAOS”, which was the first to record John’s own mono tapes in the actual order of the songs, was considered the definitive album, but even so, it still felt like an outdated copy, and in the end it was 10 from now on. The best was the one included on Purple Chick’s White Album Deluxe Edition, which was created by fans together nearly a year ago. Since then, items have been made that incorporate the entire deluxe edition, and even last year, a remastered version by a fan called “KINFAUNS DEMOS (2016 Remaster Rev A)” appeared on the internet, but it is still a Purple Chick version. It’s just an equalized version. The same thing happened with the Kinfaunsu part included in “ULTIMATE HOME DEMOS COLLECTION VOL.5” that appeared in the first half of this year. However, this time I finally got a copy of Purple Chick (hereinafter referred to as PC) in a lower generation condition. This is not at the level of equalization, but as an upper version that can be understood at first listen, it will attract the attention of enthusiasts around the world. A clearer level of clarity compared to the PC version, yet a natural taste cannot be created through equalization. Moreover, since most of this demo was performed using an acoustic guitar, the improved sound quality makes the more natural tone stand out. On the contrary, when you listen to this version, you will be keenly aware that even the PC version had a fair amount of equalization applied to it. One of the great charms of this sound source is that since it is a demo before the album starts, there are many differences in arrangement and lyrics. Among them, John’s “Revolution” has a light performance that is different from the later single version and “Revolution 1” recorded on the White Album, which is unique to acoustic demo recording. In addition, there is a parade of valuable performances such as “Child Of Nature”, which is the original song of John’s “Jealous Guy”, and “Circles”, which George released on his solo album “GONE TROPPO” 14 years after recording here. The best part is that you can hear the Beatles perform “Sour Milk Sea”, which George sent to Jackie Lomax, an artist signed to Apple. Above all, these valuable performances are still only heard on John’s own monaural sound source. Due to the improved sound quality mentioned earlier, it is possible to hear the members’ conversations even more clearly during the performance, as well as the murmurs before the performance begins, which is unique to the upper version. It’s amazing how clean, clear and natural it is.
