Description

The White Album, also known as “The Beatles,” is now considered a masterpiece of The Beatles, along with Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road. The most famous of the rare recordings from this album is the Kinfaunce Demo, a demo tape made before the start of the album’s production. Before recording began at Abbey Road Studios, The Beatles gathered at a villa named Kinfaunce, owned by George, and recorded demos of songs they planned to record there. This is part of what we would now call “pre-production,” but even so, there was no other example of The Beatles leaving demos of new songs so far before the start of the production of an album. This was proof that a large number of songs were written during their stay in India in the first half of 1968, during their time other than their training under Maharishi. The White Album ended up being a double album, but when you listen to this demo, it seems that The Beatles had the idea of making a double album from the beginning. In fact, even songs that were not included in the album were recorded at this point, so it is no exaggeration to say that this was the time when their creative drive reached its peak. The songs that were not recorded saw the light of day on each member’s solo album after the Beatles broke up, and it was also valuable that such songs could be heard on recordings from the Beatles era. Some of the songs from the Kinfounce demos are now included in “ANTHOLOGY 3,” and can now be easily heard not only on CDs but also on music distribution sites. The version included there is recorded in stereo, and it has become clear that this demo was a full-scale recording using a 4-track recorder. There are many recordings of demos made by each member, centered around John Lennon, using simple recordings, but the value of the Kinfounce recordings is also very high in that they were home demos recorded using such full-scale equipment and in which all members participated in the recording. However, the existence of this recording became known long before “ANTHOLOGY 3.” In 1988, the recordings left behind by John were released on the radio in “THE LOST LENNON TAPES,” and the Kinfounce demos were one of the highlights, and were broadcast in small doses during the program, starting with the demo of “Revolution.” The source of the recording was a mono copy that John had owned. When the broadcast of “THE LOST LENNON TAPES” was in the latter half, one of the people involved in the broadcast leaked a copy of the original recording, which became the foundation of the items that recorded the Kinfaunce demos for many years. By the way, this recording was originally a copy owned by John, and after further dubbing and distribution, hiss noise became a chronic condition. Yellow Dog’s “UNSURPASSED DEMOS”, which was the first to release a full-length version of this recording, was equalized to suppress the hiss, but it was still considered a masterpiece due to the wonderful content. In addition, there were items such as “THE KITANUS DEMO” (original title) based on a tape that had been dubbed more, and “KINFAUNS” with a messed up song order. After that, Bigotone’s “FROM KINFAUNS TO CHAOS,” which was the first to record John’s mono tapes in the actual order of the songs, was considered the definitive version, but it still felt like a copy of a generation old, and in the end, the version included in the Purple Chick White Album Deluxe Edition, which was made by fans nearly 10 years ago, was the best. After that, an item was made that incorporated the entire Deluxe Edition, and even last year, a remastered version by fans called “KINFAUNS DEMOS (2016 Remaster Rev A)” appeared on the Internet, but that was just an equalized version of the Purple Chick version. The same was true for the Kinfauns part included in “ULTIMATE HOME DEMOS COLLECTION VOL.5” released in the first half of this year. However, this time we finally got a copy in a lower generation state than Purple Chick (hereinafter referred to as PC). This is not just a level of equalization, but an upper version that you can tell at a glance, and will attract the attention of enthusiasts around the world. The clarity is even more improved than the PC version, but the natural taste is not something that can be produced by equalization. Moreover, since most of this demo is played using an acoustic guitar, the improved sound quality makes the more natural tone stand out. In fact, when you listen to this version, you will be keenly aware that even the PC version was equalized to some extent. Since this is a demo before the start of the album, the differences in the arrangement and lyrics can be seen everywhere, which is one of the great attractions of this sound source. In particular, John’s “Revolution” has a light performance that is different from the later single version and “Revolution 1” included in the White Album, which is unique to acoustic demo recordings. In addition, there is a parade of precious performances such as “Child Of Nature”, the original song of John’s “Jealous Guy”, and “Circles”, which George released on his solo album “GONE TROPPO” 14 years after recording here. And the best part is that you can hear the Beatles’ performance of “Sour Milk Sea”, which George sent to Jackie Lomax, an artist signed with Apple. And best of all, these precious performances can only be heard on John’s own mono source. The improved sound quality mentioned above allows you to hear the members’ conversations even during the performance more clearly, not to mention the murmuring before the performance starts, which is something that is unique to the upper version. It’s so clear and natural that it’s wonderful. The best of the mono version of the Kinfous demo will be released. You can also enjoy it as an acoustic version of the White Album!
