Description

The American version of the Beatles’ masterpiece “White Album” has a famous episode. George, who had gone to the United States just before the album was completed, had the opportunity to listen to the first release lacquer disc prepared by Capitol Records, but when he listened to it, he was dissatisfied with the finish, and the timing was right before the release. However, he ordered the album to be remastered. This incident was reported in the fan club newsletter Beatles Monthly, etc., and was a known fact at the time. However, this story began to have some tailspin, and rumors began to circulate that the mix seemed to be different. In fact, it even came up as a topic of discussion on Yahoo Chiebukuro and other sites, but the results showed that it wasn’t a mix difference, but a “mastering difference.” Even though George rejected the idea, records were still pressed from the first stamper (“A-28”) made just before its release, and a very small number of records were released on the market. Naturally, it has become a rare item coveted by enthusiasts, and since the beginning of this year, the winning bid for the mega-rare version, which has been touted on e-bay as “LOST HARRISON WHITE ALBUM”, has reached a whopping 640,000 yen. However, thankfully, a maniac who owns this mega-rare edition has made it a file and published it on the internet. That is this gift CD-R. Indeed, if you listen to it, there is no difference in the mix. However, the texture of the sound is completely different, and it is even different compared to the current remastered CD and distribution. It is only called a “Compressed Mix”, and the separation is not as clear as the current sound source remastered with modern technology, giving it a very analog-like finish. It’s true that the overall texture has a rough feel to it, and George probably didn’t like this aspect. However, since the original recording is a rough album (lol), it is also true that the sound quality is enough to enjoy it. Of course, it’s easy to understand the difference when you listen to the opening song “Back In The U.S.S.R.”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, or the second album “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey”. However, unexpectedly, songs like “Martha My Dear” also sounded powerful, which may have seemed strange to George. For example, if you import this and compare it with the distributed version on your smartphone, it may be easier to understand the difference. Unfortunately, the mix was not a different version, but you can still easily enjoy mastering a maverick existence with a different feel. Above all, this is a luxurious CD that will definitely come in handy for enthusiasts, as it allows you to listen to the very first pressings of mega-rare, which are extremely difficult to obtain. Please try the phantom American White Album with this item. Withdrawn White Album 1968 US 1st Issue, Compressed Mix A needledrop from an A-28 matrix pressing of the White Album Disc 1 (46:06) 1.
