Description

Following the 1962-1963 edition, a collection of early Beatles footage, the 1964 UK edition will be released. This is a collection of early footage from 1964, after the Beatles’ triumphant return after their advance into the US and their worldwide popularity. The first part of this work is the New Musical Express award winning concert on April 26, 1964. This famous footage is also called the Paul Winners Concert. The best image quality imaginable today, with no dropouts, and even with John singing crampedly with a low microphone, the very powerful “She Loves You” can be said to be the best performance of the song. It’s a truly wonderful performance. John’s burn in the following “Twist and Shout” is also amazing and can be said to be the best performance of the song. John stands on the left and Paul and George sing the chorus on the right, which is an unusual position. I have never heard such a passionate performance before, and it seems to summarize the charm of the Beatles as live performers. Must see. “Roll Over Beethoven” from Around the Beatles on April 28th. Although there are some scratches on the film, it is a song with excellent image quality. Although the audio is a live performance, it is not real-time but was recorded in advance and the miming is done to match it. George is cute as he sings with his eyes shining and looking up. The footage of Blackpool in 1964 is a documentary of that day. The rare color footage conveys the atmosphere of the time. The event appears to be held in an open-air venue next to an amusement park. And although the song title is unknown, the Beatles’ live stage on that day is also recorded in color. Footage of the Shindig on October 3rd. The performance scene itself opens with a rare song, “Kansas City? Hey Hey Hey Hey.” The performance itself is relaxed, but Paul is the only one singing while swaying up and down happily. George’s clumsy interlude is also unique to live performances. The song selection for this shindig is unusual, and the feature is that you can see the Beatles in action playing songs that do not have live footage. The same goes for the next song, “I’m a Loser” by John. There is also footage of the song from a Paris concert, and John singing with a harmonica holder around his neck like Dylan is extremely valuable. Not only the performance style but also the song itself is strongly influenced by Dylan. Among these rare songs that were up to date at the time, Ringo’s “Boys” has an undeniable old-fashioned feel, but it is also rare to see Paul and John standing on the left and singing the chorus, and George standing alone on the right. Before the interlude, Ringo shouts “All right George!”, and George’s expression as he smiles in response is noteworthy. This shindig also includes an additional song, “Kansas City ? Hey Hey Hey Hey,” from a different version of the video that was leaked via a different route. Although the date is unknown, it is a program from that time called TONIGHT. It is an interview with Eppy about Brian Epstein’s book. This video is known as “OCTOBER 14, SCENE AT 6:30”. It is a leaked video with a time code at the bottom. In addition to the backstage scenes that were not broadcast on the program itself, the rehearsal scenes of “You Should Have Known Better” are very valuable, and when I first saw it, I was surprised that such footage existed. The performance scene can also be seen in the movie “A Hard Day’s Night”, but this is a video from behind the staff, as if it was a secret shot. John’s playfulness as he sticks his head out is cute. It’s like watching a scene from a movie. This is a video of the Beatles when they visited the city of Dundee on October 20. The state of the audience in the venue shows the concert that day, which also included the performance of the opening act. Looking at the footage of the unfashionable opening act, you can of course feel the era, but you can also see how sophisticated the Beatles were compared to them. Then, prompted by the host, the Beatles appear from behind the curtain at the back of the stage. Although all the songs played are fragmentary, the performance scenes of “Money” and “Things We Said Today” are worth watching. The closeness between the stage and the audience is unimaginable today, and you can clearly understand the Beatles’ performance and the excitement of the audience. Footage from Glasgow on October 21st. This is a short and silent film, but the image quality is clear and you can see Paul and George sharing a microphone and adding chorus. The song title is unknown. Footage from Plymouth performance on October 29th. This is also short but valuable. First, there is a video of fans singing “We Love You Beatles”. Next, there is a video of fans screaming at the concert, and when the camera moves to the stage, the Beatles sing “Twist and Shout”. It makes you want to see more. This is a video from THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS on November 14th. With “I Feel Fine”, “She’s A Woman”, and “I’m A Loser”, you can feel the mature melancholy of the Beatles, who have moved away from their early period and moved into their middle period. The songs selected were from the album “BEATLES FOR SALE” to promote the band. “Rock and Roll Music” is strongly associated with footage from their Japan tour, but surprisingly there aren’t many videos of them performing the song. This is one of them. This was their last TV appearance in the UK in 1964. And at the end of this album, as a bonus, we have “Kansas City – Hey Hey Hey Hey” from the colorized shindig. Although there are clear color photos, as seen on the cover of this album, the footage is recorded in black and white. This is an experimental video that artificially colorizes it. Please consider it to be in the same spirit as “All You Need is Love” in the anthology. A valuable collection of early Beatles live footage. April 26, 1964 01. Poll Winner’s Concert a.
