Description
Live Chronicle series is now in stock! In addition to the complete version of the so-called Rooftop Concert held on the roof of the Apple Building on January 30, 1969, which has been out of print for a long time, this set also includes a no-cropping version of the movie “Let It Be” in the highest quality plus, and a collection of related videos. Masu. [Get Back Session] The emotional rift between the members, which began to become evident during the recording of the White Album, was serious, and the Beatles were on the verge of disbanding. Concerned about the situation, Paul took the lead in devising a plan to once again hold the concert that had been canceled since Candlestick in 1966, in which live performance is what unites us. However, in addition to being blank, George and John expressed reluctance, so instead of suddenly standing on the concert stage, they decided to broadcast a live show with an audience on TV, and at the same time, they decided to show the rehearsal scene. Paul also compromises on the idea of broadcasting it along with a documentary that captures it. Rehearsals for the live show and filming of the documentary began on 2 January 1969 at a video studio in Twickenham. However, the vast empty space and surrounding cameras and staff created tension in the Beatles’ sacred recording site, which until now had only been performed by four people and a small number of engineers. It was also not a success. And George abandons his part in the middle of the session. As a condition for George’s return after leaving the session, the overall concept of the session was changed to “recording an album and producing a theatrical film that captures the process.” Sessions resumed on the 1st at the studio (Apple Studio) set up in the basement of the Apple Building on Savile Row. These are commonly known as “GET BACK SESSION”, and the first half and second half had completely different objectives. Almost all of this session can be heard through the reel tape sound source recorded by the video crew, but rehearsals for the second half of the recording session at Apple Studio began at the beginning of the month. Although there are pros and cons about the fact that the new songs were recorded in just 11 days of sessions, it is a valuable document that conveys the underlying power of the Beatles’ amazing creativity. [Movie “Let It Be”] A huge amount of footage and sound sources were recorded from the month-long session, commonly known as the Get Back Session, which was edited to create the movie “Let It Be.” It was initially shot on 16mm film as it was intended for television, but was later blown up to 35mm film for theatrical release. There were some releases on video and laser discs in the 80s, but all of them were commercialized by Allen Klein without the consent of the Beatles, so of course they were immediately discontinued, and after that, Only part of this movie was used in the anthology, and despite its popularity, it has become an iconic title that has not yet been made into a software version. Although it has not been made into software, it has been broadcast in Japan and other countries, so it is relatively easy to see it, but since it has not been made into official software, there are no trimmings or credits. There are many different versions, each with varying image quality, and the current situation is very confusing. Although the order is reversed, I think it will be easier to understand if you first watch “4 VERSIONS COMPARISON” included on DVD Disc 1 of this work (see the sample video below). It allows you to view four different versions of the same scene at the same time. When you look at this, the first thing you notice is the difference in color. One thing I didn’t realize until I juxtaposed them like this is that the timing of the opening credits appearing on the screen differs depending on the version. The most important thing to pay attention to is trimming. The screen at the top right is a close-up of the entire image, so the screen is cut by exactly that amount. The same goes for the bottom left, and since it is close-up, there are many parts that have been cut out. Although the bottom right is a wide screen, you can see that the bottom part is mainly cut off to make it 16:9, and the top and bottom are cut off. And the one on the top left included in this work. As you can see from this comparison, you can clearly see that both the top, bottom, left, and right sides are recorded without any trimming, including parts that are not included in other versions. It is clear that the position of the pole, the position of the microphone, etc. were originally recorded up to this point. At the end of Disc 1, the original trailer created at that time is included. Disc 2 of the DVD contains outtake footage from the movie “Let It Be.” As mentioned above, a huge amount of footage remains, but it is physically impossible to record all of it, so this work focuses on the performance scenes, which are relatively good, and includes scenes other than those that can be seen in the movie. Contains outtake footage. Apart from the studio, there is also footage dedicated to the rooftop concert, and finally, the movie “Let It Be” once again. This differs from the no-trimmed version recorded on Disc 1, and includes a widescreen version in the lower right corner of the 4-split screen. Therefore, this work includes two versions of “Let It Be”: a no-trimmed version and a widescreen version. Of course, there are many other versions, but considering the image quality and screen, rather than increasing the number of sheets unnecessarily, these two types not only cover all the advantages of the many versions, but also have both image quality and content. It can be said that this is the best “Let It Be”. [Rooftop Concert] As the climax of this movie, on January 30, 1969, when the sessions had reached a boiling point, a live performance featuring only new Beatles songs was held. Paul was imagining a small club, such as a Cavern club, but John was overseas, in Africa, Ringo didn’t want to leave the UK, George didn’t want to do live shows in the first place, and there was no consensus among the members. In the end, it was decided that the performance and photo shoot would be held on the roof of the Apple Building. The Beatles’ last live performance was to be held on their rooftop, without an audience. (Incidentally, the performances of “TWO OF US,” “THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD,” and “LET IT BE,” which were filmed at the underground Apple Studio on the 31st, were said to be songs unsuitable for rooftop performances.) In essence, it can be said to be an extension of rooftop concerts.) As a result, the Beatles with Billy Preston suddenly performed on the roof of the Apple building in a harsh environment with cold winds blowing, and the loud volume suddenly echoed through the streets of London at noon. In the movie “LET IT BE,” you can see people passing by looking up at the tops of buildings, hearing sounds but not seeing them. In order to avoid leaking all the circumstances surrounding the concert, multiple cameras were filming the concert, and of course the reels were being spun simultaneously to record the sound sources for all of those cameras, so including the playback. , there are many remaining sound sources with different sources, and this work is a complete version containing all of them on three CDs. First of all, Disc 1 is the longest recording of this concert by editing multiple reels. According to Mark Lewison’s book, the concert was held for 42 minutes, but this work contains 44 minutes, including before and after the performance. Even if all the multi-track tapes were leaked in the future, it is a true complete version that also contains the parts that have not been captured. The appearance of the Beatles members coming up to the roof, Paul jumping up to check his footing, and Ringo’s joke to roadie Mal Evans, “Mal, am I in a place like this!?” are all signs of anticipation for the performance that is about to begin. Let me hold you. Each song has a DDSI number on the back jacket, so I think it’s very convenient to refer to related books as you listen. The first song is not a proper performance, but a light warm-up. John confirms the fingering of the guitar solo of “GET BACK” and makes a light tune, and the historic concert finally begins. The fact that “GET BACK” is played twice at the beginning and once again at the end shows that this song is a number that symbolizes the session. As expected, the performance was intended for the movie, and John’s lyrics for “DON’T LET ME DOWN” and “I’VE GOT A FEELING” were ambiguous, and multiple takes were performed. In between songs, there are playful songs such as “I WANT YOU” and “A PRETTY GIRL IS LIKE A MELODY,” which suggests a relaxed atmosphere. Of course, “GOD SAVE THEQUEEN”, which was played while the multi-track tape was being replaced, is also included. The first performance, “GET BACK”, is still a performance that is getting used to the shoulders, but even though the conditions are extremely cold, which is not suitable for playing, the performance is tight from the beginning. If the album “LET IT BE” includes “ONE AFTER 909”, “DIG A PONY”, “I’VE GOT AFEELING” (first performance), and “LET IT BE…NAKED”, then “DON’T LET MEDOWN” ( The fact that this rooftop concert performance was also included (edited twice with “I’VE GOT A FEELING”) shows how fulfilling this performance is. As the concert progressed, people filled the area near the Apple Building and traffic was paralyzed. Police arrive after receiving a call from a neighbor and issue a warning to stop the performance. In the movie “Let It Be,” there is a scene in which the arrival of the police is captured from outside and inside the door on the first floor, so some fans point out that the report itself was a “coaxed” production, but the staff at the time said, He strongly denied the rumors, saying, “They had given a 10-minute notice that they would be dispatched, and in response, large quantities of all kinds of drugs were flushed down the toilet.” In the movie “LET IT BE”, the third “GETBACK” of the day is captured on the rooftop where Mal Evans acts as an intermediary and forcibly starts playing. In the Japanese booklet of “ANTHOLOGY 3,” which includes this performance, translated from Mark Lewison’s liner, it says, “Soon after we started playing, John and George’s amplifiers broke down (although it was quickly fixed)…” However, in the movie “Let It Be,” George’s amplifier is restored immediately after George touches the back panel where the power switch and standby switch are located, so the power was simply turned off (or was it turned off?). It can also be seen that this is the case. In any case, this final “GET BACK” is a performance full of unity and drive that ignores happenings, and Paul’s improvisation is also clear, making it a suitable performance to conclude a rooftop concert. Did the Beatles pass the audition? I’ll leave the answer up to you. The second half of CD Disc 1 includes the sound source of the film soundtrack from the movie “LET ITBE”, which was also performed at the same roof top concert. Please compare the mix and song selection actually used in the movie. Next, disks 2 and 3 contain all the rolls recorded at this time, roll by roll. First of all, disc 2 is A roll, ROLL562 and ROLL563. This is the main roll, and it is the most comprehensive recording in terms of sound quality, recording location, etc., and most of the previous releases were released with only this roll recorded. However, this work also includes four B-roll parts: ROLL1146B, ROLL1147B, ROLL1148B, and ROLL1149B. Although this is a sub-recording, it contains parts that are not included in A-roll, so it cannot be overlooked. Furthermore, although the focus is on interviews, the roll recorded on the street in front of the Apple Building rather than on the rooftop is a valuable record of how this concert was heard locally. Camera C’s sound source is playback. And although the sound source of camera D is a slightly distant sound source, it is recorded here because it is a different source from a different camera. In addition to the movie “Let It Be” in the highest image quality ever, it also includes an untrimmed version with a noticeably wider screen. Contains the best currently available version of “Let It Be,” which has been released numerous times. A widescreen version is also included, so please take a look and compare. Other related videos, trailers from the time, comparison videos of 4 versions, outtake videos, etc. are packed with content that can be enjoyed in a way only enthusiasts can enjoy. The first CD allows you to listen to the complete version of the legendary January 30, 1969 Roof Top Concert. The second half includes an additional soundtrack from the movie. Furthermore, the second and third sheets recorded for each role. The content here is that the rooftop sound source is perfect. This is a set of a complete rooftop concert where you can examine precious moments in history from various angles, and the movie “Let It Be.” DISC ONE Complete Rooftop Concert Apple Building London UK January 30, 1969 01.
