A Hard Day’s Night (The Beatles Are Coming, Yea! Yea! Yea!) is known as The Beatles’ first starring movie in 1964. Since its theatrical release in the 1960s, it has been broadcast on TV in the 1970s and released on video and DVD repeatedly since the 1980s, but now the latest edited collector’s edition in 2022 is available as “THE MOVIE SPECIAL COLLECTION”, which includes the original movie version from the time of its release in 1964, a video documentary including unreleased scenes, and a collection of all the soundtracks! The main DVD, the “original movie version” from the time of its release in 1964, contains the original 4:3 aspect ratio video and original mono sound source, as it was at the time of its theatrical release, with no screen trimming or editing. The video currently in circulation has been trimmed at the top and bottom of the screen to accommodate widescreen (16:9), and the parts that were originally visible have been cut. The audio has also been replaced from the original mono to stereo and remixed. When it was first released on video in the 1980s, it was close to the original, but the image quality was poor and the playback environment was running out. The “original movie version” recorded this time was not a past video transcription, but was recorded from a video source that maintained good master quality. It can be viewed in the original format different from the one currently in circulation. The second DVD contains valuable video documentaries as “special features”. The first half contains only excerpts of songs in wide and stereo versions that show the difference from the original. Next, it also contains “I Cry”, which was added before the main part of the video era, and “You Can’t Do That” (stereo version that is currently difficult to obtain), which was not used in the movie. And the valuable video documentary “FOLLOW THE BEATLES”, which has never been officially released until now, is recorded for the first time in the original complete version. There are scenes from the filming of the movie that you can’t see anywhere else and unreleased scenes, so it is a must-see that should be called a making-of documentary. In addition, movie trailers, news footage from the time of the theatrical release, and several rare movie outtakes not included in “FOLLOW THE BEATLES” are also included. The 2CD version includes the transitions between the previous soundtrack mixes. Going back to the 2014 remix by Gilles Martin, the original mono mix, the stereo mix from the video era, and the soundtrack album and related sources released by United Artists in the US at the time are also included.
