In addition, the first edition UK cassette of a different mix, which was also very popular, has been digitized. With these two sources, you can enjoy the moving analog sound source of Abbey Road! (Disc 1 Safety Master Reel) This was reproduced by borrowing a backup tape made from the master tape of Abbey Road sent to Japan from Abbey Road Studios in January 1978, which was copied to DAT by a related party in 1991. This master tape sent to Japan in 1978 was used to cut the Abbey Road Pro Use series, which is highly acclaimed for its high sound quality, and was also the master of the world’s first Beatles CD, which was released in 1984, but was recalled and discontinued. This Safety Master has been digitized a few times, but there were many flaws, such as excessive noise reduction, digital noise in the first half of the song, and gaps when it was made into a CD. In 2019, it was reprinted without any EQ, which was well received, and it led to the release of various Abbey Road tape sources. This time, the aforementioned DAT was used again to carefully restore and remaster only the magnetic transfer parts and defective parts, so there is hiss and tape noise, but the sound is still powerful, and since the compression required for LP production is not applied, the beginning of Her Majesty is surprisingly loud. Contrary to expectations, this was incredibly amazing, and we received a lot of positive feedback when it was released in 2019. Paul’s roaring bass, John’s intense vocals, George’s guitar reverberation, and Ringo’s cymbals stand out! And the wonderful chorus that stands out. It’s different from any Abbey Road I’ve ever heard. There’s no noise reduction at all! The hiss is noticeable only at first, but once you notice it, the vividness and power of the instruments and vocals makes it almost unnoticeable. Due to the high price (several times that of an open reel) and low penetration rate of cassette decks in Europe at the time, there are very few existing ones. Conversely, cassette production was already skyrocketing in the United States and Australia, so there are few UK cassettes and they have not yet been thoroughly studied.
