Description
“LAST LACQUERS” was a title that summarized the acetate recordings that The Beatles left behind during the process of recording and mixing, but this time, the definitive edition of the essential collection that summarized the sessions that are the basis of their recordings is here. This means that while “LAST LACQUERS” was mainly a compilation of different mixes, this time you can hear plenty of different takes, that is, different performances. This is not limited to The Beatles, but in the early 1960s, the style of recording was that the band would all stand by and record songs together. Since the mid-1960s, with the development of recording technology, puzzle-like recordings have also been made, but the basic style of recording is still the “one-shot” style. Especially groups like The Beatles often recorded songs together throughout this era. Although it has been talked about extensively in specialist magazines and other sources, in the late 1980s, The Beatles’ session recordings were leaked, and many masterpieces, including “ULTRA RARE TRAX,” were produced. After that, an official anthology was released, and the situation has become even more favorable. Naturally, enthusiasts are working to create a compilation that makes full use of the abundant sound sources available. In the past, there was Silent Sea, the most highly acclaimed Purple Chick, and the BACK TO BASICS series. Every time they were released online, enthusiasts were ecstatic, but the BACK TO BASICS series was particularly hot when it was released. However, time passes quickly, and eight years have passed since the BACK TO BASICS series, and ten years have passed since the Purple Chick, so it is natural that both series need to be reviewed for their old content and recordings. The BACK TO BASICS series also had a major drawback in that it did not reach the end. The task of compiling the Beatles’ recording sessions is naturally time-consuming, and Master Jedi and others wisely focused on editing each sound source as a substitute for the chronological order of the sessions. The result was the famous “LAST LACQUERS”. However, this year, a maniac calling himself Coltturkey has been working since this summer to review the Beatles session sound sources for the first time in a long time and release a new compilation. The purpose, of course, is to create a new generation of session sound source collection to replace the items from the two labels mentioned above. In recent years, there has been the shocking release of the official “BOOTLEG RECORDINGS 1963”, as well as the discovery of upper version sound sources from HMC, and the appearance and creation of a new compilation that covers them all has been eagerly awaited. This time, we will release a compilation of Beatles sessions by him, but of course, as with “LAST LACQUERS”, the content will be reviewed and released. Among the Coltturkey “COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS” albums, “Volume 2”, which is a compilation of sessions from the first album “PLEASE PLEASE ME”, and “Volume 3”, which is a compilation of sessions after the album’s release, are combined under one title. The first album starts with “How Do You Do It”, which was a candidate for the first single, even though it was written by an outside writer. However, in the original recording by Coltturkey, a mistake was made in that a version with an edited ending was included in the unreleased song collection “SESSIONS” in 1984, and for this release, it was replaced with the original 1962 version. This is the most basic of the basics for enthusiasts, and even though there are points that make you want to point out, such looseness is generally found among overseas enthusiasts. Although it is often overlooked, the best source of this sound source is actually the ancient “ULTRA RARE TRAX Vol.1”. This time, the sound source has been replaced and recorded with the latest remaster. In addition, the single “Please Please Me” and B-side “Ask Me Why” for which no session recordings exist are both included in the single mono mix. The single mixes are still not officially released on CD. The latter single is especially rare, and the echo is subdued. On the other hand, the wonderful thing about Coltturkey’s editing is that the anthology sound source is remastered for the latest format. This remaster has not been released on CD, so the fact that it is available on vinyl will be one of the attractions of this release. In addition, the stereo session recordings of “Do You Want To Know A Secret?” and “A Taste Of Honey” for the first album, which were recorded in one day, were unearthed in “BOOTLEG RECORDINGS 1963”. The latest version of the “PLEASE PLEASE ME” session incorporates this. In particular, the fact that “Do You Want To Know A Secret?” can be heard in two consecutive stereo takes was not available in previous titles. The sessions for this album make the most of the band’s “one, two, two” style of recording, and the differences in the performances are really interesting and worth listening to. The session for “I Saw Her Standing There,” which all rock fans will know, contains a shocking truth. A total of nine takes were made, but only Take 1 was used. However, the performance does not start with the impressive Paul’s shouted count. In fact, this count was made by Paul during Take 9, the last performance, and he took the trouble to cut it out and add it to Take 1. The unreleased stereo mix that was heard on the American compilation “RARITIES” (Japanese title: “Rarities Vol.2”), which was not included on the master recording, has also been added to this release. The second disc is mainly composed of the sessions for the third single “From Me To You.” They also recorded the B-side “Thank You Girl” on this day, as well as “One After 909,” which would be re-recorded more than five years later. The demo acetate of “What Goes On”, which was recently released and became a hot topic and was included in the latest release “LAST LACQUERS”, was actually based on the official recording of that day, but the recording was not realized because the studio’s reserved time was used up during the sessions of the songs mentioned above. As proof of this, each song was carefully taken over and over again. Not only that, after the master take was recorded, the patterns and arrangements that came up for the ending and interlude were tried out separately. When connecting these parts, differences in the mix were created between the UK and the US. Among them, the scene where he tries humming “From Me To You” as “Uuuuuuuu” instead of “La la la la la” is interesting. Also included as a bonus is a playful rendition of “From Me To You”, which was quietly heard in rock bands. From John’s voice quality, it is assumed that he strummed it between sessions around the time of the White Album, but many people may be hearing it for the first time with this release. The sound quality of “One After 909” was one rank lower in the original Coltturkey version and “BACK TO BASICS”, but this time we have reviewed the content of this part as well and replaced it with an upgraded sound source that we obtained ourselves. This is a must-see! The bonus also includes a fan-remastered version of “She Loves You”, whose session tape no longer exists. The song was made by connecting multiple takes together, and the aging of the master made the seams of the song more or less noticeable. This is the version in which fans have successfully eliminated such roughness. And unlike the Purple Chick, which was released before the album was remastered, which did not include the album itself, or the BACK TO BASICS, which was originally the same mix but included different equalization versions added independently in each country, this is the latest upgraded version that is a culmination of studio sessions without any waste!
