Description
Since its launch in 1952, the British music magazine New Musical Express remains one of the most influential rock media outlets not only in the UK but worldwide. It is often abbreviated to the acronym NME. NME particularly promoted the Beatles and the Stones, two of Britain’s biggest forces, and featured them on numerous covers, and today they have become vintage collector’s items. In Japan, Music Life used to hold popularity polls for each band and the instrument in charge, but NME also hosts a music award every year based on voting, gathering the selected bands, and organizing the Kohaku Uta Gassen, which bears the magazine’s name. They are holding concerts like. That is NME POLL WINNERS CONCERT (New Musical Express’ most popular concert). The award was first held in 1953 and is now one of the most prestigious awards in the UK. The Beatles performed for four consecutive years from 1963 to 1966. This work includes the NME POLL WINNERS CONCERT. Regarding the first appearance in 1963, neither the video nor the sound source remains, and only a few photos give a glimpse of what happened on that day. Records state that he performed four songs, “Please Please Me,” “From Me To You,” “Twist And Shout,” and “Long Tall Sally,” while wearing the collarless suit that symbolized the early Beatles. You can currently watch all of 1964, including the video and sound source. The number of songs performed increased from last year to 5: “She Loves You,” “You Can’t Do That,” “Twist And Shout,” “Long Tall Sally,” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.” “You Can’t Do That” captures a scene where John makes a mistake in the composition of the song and gets anxious. The reason why it ends with “Can’t Buy Me Love” instead of “Long Tall Sally” is because the single was released a month ago on March 20th, and also because it was the most recent single released in the UK. This is probably because it was the best-selling song at the time, with 2.1 million pre-orders in the US and reaching number one on Billboard in its second week of release. This number of pre-orders still stands as a Guinness World Record, and it was around this time that the Beatles dominated Billboard charts from No. 1 to No. 5, including “Can’t Buy Me Love.” It can be said that this was the stage at which the Beatles’ popularity was at its peak. You can currently watch all of 1965, including the video and sound source. At this time, there were 5 songs: “I Feel Fine,” “She’s A Woman,” “Baby’s In Black,” “Ticket To Ride,” and “Long Tall Sally.” The selection of songs seems to have been picked up from the songs played on regular tours. Perhaps it is due to the nature of the concert that they mainly play singles. Although they are rock, the songs are relatively calm. In the song introduction of “Baby’s In Black”, Paul states “Baby’s in … Blackpool”. This is a joke between the word “black” and the place name “Blackpool.” The Beatles wore the same costumes as at Shea Stadium. Since “She’s A Woman” is not recorded in the Shea Stadium video, I somehow imagine it by duplicating the image. Similarly to 1963, 1966, unfortunately, no video or sound source remains. However, a powerful, beautiful, and vivid color photo of the Beatles wearing black tops and bottoms remains. Records state that they performed five songs: “I Feel Fine,” “If I Needed Someone,” “Day Tripper,” “Nowhere Man,” and “I’m Donw.” It is noteworthy that George’s vocal song was performed for the first time at an NME concert. Both are songs played on the 1966 tour, and it is also the same that the last one ends with “I’m Down”. As mentioned above, neither the video nor the audio remains, but the only footage of the award ceremony remains. Although there are no particular speeches to be made, the members can be seen taking the stage, receiving award cups, and posing for photos. This work is a title that includes all the remaining footage and sound sources from the NME Pole Winners Concert, which they performed in for four consecutive years. Not only has the image quality been upgraded compared to previous titles, but it also includes colorized footage of both 1964 and 1965 concerts. It is a set that will become a new definitive edition of the NME Pole Winners Concert, covering other news footage that conveys the situation on the day and different versions.
